Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

We didn't have small children on our tour, but remember it's at least 2 hours in duration and hot.

As far as I know the tours are daytime. Ours started at around 5pm. Google free walking tours to see which tours are scheduled, at what time they start and where they meet. Maybe you can turn up and join it. Good luck.
