Chiesa Mendicoli has one of the most ornately decorated interiors of Venetian churches. The problem is, there is no lighting provided. We visited around lunchtime, and the interior was dark. We paid the Euro fee to turn the lights on for 5 minutes, and wow,...More

San Nicolo is possibly best known as the church that features in the movie 'Don't Look Now'. At the time of filming it was being restored under the aegis of 'Venice in Peril' and visiting today it is gratifying to see what a wonderful job...More

We came across this church by chance. It is a really lovely building inside as well as outside. The interior is literally beautiful and worth a visit.

One of the most famous and lovely churches in Venice, yet the one most tourists are likely to miss. Its obscurity stems from it being tugged away at a remote Venetian area inside a particularly bewildering maze of bridges and waterways. Even John Ruskin failed...More

Reputed to be one of the oldest churches in Venice, but in a fairly remote and quiet part of Dorsoduro. Nevertheless, a sumptuous interior: mediaeval columns supporting richly carved and gilt renaissance arches alternating with statues, and surmounted by the usual Venetian bounty of large...More

Ornate and pretty little church with an unassuming exterior maybe to protect the contents which are rather spectacular.

Walk around the area: unspoiled by tourists and very genuine. It used to be a poor part of town: hence the name of the church: St Nicholas of the beggars. The exterior has an original porch and inside it is richly decorated with paintings in...More

What can I say& It is definitely beautiful. Baroque. Tasty. Historical. Sedate. But you will probably not remember exactly its name after at least two days in Venice/ For strollers^ you will find peace and rest here, at least for a while....untill your legs stop...More

Such a wonderful church hidden away behind a very unprepossessing exterior and tucked away in one of Venice's quietest corners. The interior is quite simply breathtaking and devotees of Don't Look Now will be glad they made the pilgrimage. A very worthwhile visit.

Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with
street artists, students, painters, sculptors,
restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and

collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for
evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries
cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica
buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob
