Venice is a great place to stroll around, but very easy to get lost. The locals say it takes tourists a week to get used to finding their way around. There are so many beautiful buildings to visit. If you are going walking, take a note of the street number where you are staying. There is only one of each... More

Had a great tour of the Jewish Ghetto, learned a lot, saw a lot and ate great food! It was nice getting off the beaten path and into some of the more intimate areas. Our guide was fabulous and we enjoyed sharing food and drink with other travelers.

Marie was great. It was a rainy day, but she made sure we had a great time. We learned so much from her.

Venice is true to the saying that it is a Romantic destination. Prices in Venice are high, as its not a cheap place but it certainly is a beautiful and enchanting destination to visit and stay for a few days. Highly recommended and we will be returning back for another visit.

We took two tours with City Wonders while in Venice: Murano Glassblowing and Burano Lacemaking, Half Day Venetian Island Tour and Doge's Palace Secret Itineraries. For both tours, the guides were fantastic providing interesting facts, history and neat stories. I feel that joining the tours add cultural depth to my understanding of the places I visit and makes me appreciate... More

We took a Skip the Line: Best of Venice Walking Tour including Basilica di San Marco and Doge's Palace with Susan and she was so knowledgeable! It helps she earned a degree in Art History - she added so many insights and helpful information on our tour. I liked that it included the "biggies" - St Mark's, Doge's Palace, Rialto... More

I'd thoroughly recommend this trip, my husband and I and our 3 children had a super time exploring the islands of Murano and Burano. It was a very small group with only 4 others, we watched the glass and lace being made but we weren't tied up for too long and had time to wander the streets of the two... More

We took a package of tours that included a Secret Doge's Palace tour, a Skip the line St. Mark's Square and Basilica tour as well as a Venice walking tour that included a ride in a boat taxi around the city and into the canals. Although we are not traditionally "tour" people, we had very limited time in Venice and... More

Our guide Monica was very knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions about Dorsoduro. We took the 6:30 pm tour that ended with a half hour gondola ride. It was a great value and a wonderful way to explore the city. We had a particularly good gondolier, as well, who took us gliding through the moonlit canals, pointed out... More

In the morning we had Natalia, lots of great info, thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and she personally went out of her way to show me a fantastic little out-of-the-way restaurant where I had beautiful food. In the afternoon for Murano and Burano our guide was Christina, again she was great and although the glass and lace places obviously would like... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
