This church is a small gem, well worth seeking out. Beautifully proportioned and decorated without and within with marble and with paintings on its barrel-vaulted ceiling, it is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. The church was built to house a beautiful icon of the Virgin,...More

tucked away between Rialto and Fondamento. Nice somewhat smaller scale church - apparently beloved by Venetian wedding planners

To get to this gem we caught the ferry - which gives you the opportunity to see the grand canal and it's surroundings on the way. The church itself is one of my favorites - the outside architecture breath taking with statues carved into the...More

It needs persistence to find this church, but it is worth it. Interesting contrast to the ornateness of the principal churches in Venice. Simple, but serene. They say that people like getting married here.

This little jewel box of a church is a must. Nothing is very far away in central Venice so it really is worth the effort.

Cute church with wonderfully cut pastel marble panels. It is in a congested area that adds to its charm. After seeing this chuch it made me better appreciate the the stonework throughout Venice. And with the cleaning of St. Mark's, it brought to my attention...More

Make sure you don't miss a visit to this little jewel. Inside and outside this church is just perfect. Just enjoy the harmonious dimensions and the beautiful decorations up near the altar.

Know that the corner nearby this cute little church (the one with views of calle/ponte Widman) is one of the most picturesque for those iconic/cliche canal reflections in all of Venice. I am done. The end.

I read a review that said it was a lovely place but no one seemed to go there. We had icecream nearby. We went to go in and have a look but you had to pay to go in. I expect it costs quite a...More

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Its quite a trek best to take a water taxi to the Rialto Bridge ask which way there and its about 15 minutes . It is down alleys so need to check if you are heading the right way. Well worth it though

Probably Rialto or Fondamente Nuove as good as any - it's about halfway between. But the easiest way to find it is from the Church of Ss Giovanni e Paolo; from the square in front of it, a bridge leads across the canal to... More
