One of the many...

.... churches in similar style in Venice, all of which I liked a lot. You can somehow sense the Byzantine influence.

This might be the most beautiful church in Venice. That is saying a lot, but it is unique. The entire focus of the church is on one single painting, which accounts for the fact that there is little other art - but the marble walls are exceptional, and the nun's balcony is also of interest.

The marble exterior and interior was quite unlike any other church visited. A charge is made for entry but well worth the experience

A fantastic church on the inside and on the outside. Best in the springtime. Little art but a wonderful visit

If you like visiting churches don't miss this one. It's quite different from most of the rest, both inside and outside being cased in marble.

This may be the most beautiful church in Venice. It is in the style of San Marco but very human-sized. It is the most requested for weddings in the city, and for good reason.

As a non religious person, I found the atmosphere in its beautifully simple interior extremely calming and peaceful.

This small church alone could justify a trip to Venice for an architecture fan. You come upon it by surprise even when you're looking for it. (The truth is that in Venice I'm surprised whenever I find anyplace I'm looking for). It is adjacent to a beautiful campo, Sta. Maria Nuova. When you're there, take a look at a great... More

this church is nicknamed the jewel box because it looks so exquisite and beautiful. the stone it is built of, is said to have been left over from building the St. Marks basilica. It is famous for weddings, at least I witnessed a few when walking past. The Campo di Miracoli is a nice mostly quiet campo with a few... More

The marble and lighting inside are stunning. This is simple called the Miracle by Venetians. Many try to get married at this church but the wait is a long one.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
