Nice environment, full of history and attractions, beginning with the Jewish Ghetto, with its synagogues and interesting "Campo" (public square).

I just love this area of Venice. It's charming and the area where most Venician residents live. Fruit and vegetable markets and any shops residents or tourists need. Close to train station. I'll only stay in this area in the future. Vaparetto stops close by...More

We stayed in an airbnb here. It was a fantastic place to stay and would recommend it. It is an easy walk from the bus station even with a suitcase. The local bars and restaurants were very reasonably priced and friendly. We ate and drank...More

We wandered, drank and ate unguardedly. At the edge of the canal, I had the best Cannelloni spinaci e ricotta that has ever been created in the history of the world, probably. The churches and the insane asylum provide a suitably atmospheric backdrop.

This region is just outside of the heart of the tourist areas. Yet it is so close when you want to dip back in. The area is steeped in history and Houses the oldest Jewish ghetto in the world. It is now very much a...More

Central but away from the tourist hustle and bustle. Cannaregio is probably the last of the 6 sestieri (quarters) to be soon touristy. So here you find a still very calm and laid-back Venice and a few modern and very nice places to have a...More

Our hotel was in this area. The area was interesting, clean and not too busy. Plenty of good restaurants.

Stayed in this area for two nights and would definitely do it again! Loved all the local cafes and bars close by and the lack of tourists. I know that’s the pot call the kettle black, but I still loved it there.

It is a nice neighborhood away from the hub bub with a variety of local stores and restaurants. The Jewish neighborhood is a quaint little area

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

One more thought. For Christmas eve it may be very advisable to reserve a dinner in a restaurant (and see through internet if it is open). Otherwise it may happen that you will not find any place available. All can be fully... More
