There is no doubt that Marco Secchi "saved" Venice for me. The morning I arrived the city was shrouded in a dense fog. There wasn't much to see -- or so I thought. For the next 3 hours, Marco guided me through a tour of Venice that historians could only dream of. Not only did I learn a great deal... More

I am an amateur photographer, when I saw this Photo Walk recommendation on TA I was really excited. On my way from Paris to Venice, I dropped my DSLR at the airport. Marco recommended a camera shop in Venice, thank you so much. Otherwise I would be totally heartbroken. My husband and I enjoyed the walk tremendously. Marco presented a... More

As an avid amateur photographer the thing I looked forward to most on our trip to Italy was a full day of photography in Venice with Marco Secchi -- and even so, it exceeded my expectations. Personable and charming, within minutes Marco felt like a friend, which is to say that I felt very comfortable asking him questions and telling... More

Venice is surprisingly difficult to photograph well. The light is tricky, and the amount of visual stimulus is intense....where to even begin was an issue. I did this tour with my 10 year old daughter, and I think we were both a little intimidated before the tour started. I was using a Nikon SLR and she was using an iPhone... More

Marco was a fantastic guide! I am comfortable shooting in manual mode and own a photography company back in the states so while I did not need a lot of assistance in operating the camera, Marco provided exactly what I wanted-- a tour of the city to make sure that I didn't miss any of the gorgeous views (and photo... I spent a really productive three hours in Venice with Marco on a walking photo tour. Not only was Marco an excellent guide - very informed about the city - but in addition I learnt new things about my camera and I visited parts of the city that I never would have seen had I not taken this tour. I... More

Marco's photographic tour of Venice was an absolute highlight of our recent trip to Venice. To have the opportunity to see Venice through a Venetian's eyes, to explore the quieter streets away from the crowds and explore the hidden gems and get glimpses of the 'real Venice' on a private tour was so special. Marco was warm and welcoming, helpful... More

This was the best introduction to the beautiful city of Venice that I could ask for. Marco was so concerned about our appreciation of the tour, that he rang early in the morning to ask whether we wanted to postpone or limit the tour due to poor weather conditions. Thankfully the weather improved and we were taken around some of... More

Fantastic photography tour of Venice - with an informed, intelligent and charismatic professional. So much is squeezed into the tour - and our photos came out stunning! All of them!

I traveled alone to Venice to photograph and see this amazing city. Marco took me on the best three hour photo tour. I learned more about photoprahy in those three hours. Marco is prompt, extremely professional, a kind, sincere Gentleman. Very easy to talk with on many subjects and his knowledge of Venice and current affairs in the world are... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
