I had such an amazing morning with marco. We started before the sun came up and got to explore Venice before the cruise ships and crowds changed the atmosphere. Marco had put great effort into knowing when was the best to photograph a particular location because of the light and he also upped my skill level and challenged me to... More

Our photo walking tour with Marco was more than a lesson in photography. Marco not only took time explaining the scene with its lighting, shadows, mirrored images in the water, he discussed the history and culture associated with the photo we were attempting to capture. At times we could visualize what it must have been like to live in Venice in centuries... More

Although it was raining the day when we had initially agreed on, Marco made everything what was possible to meet us next day. He helped me a lot with instructions on my Nikon camera and improving my composition. We walked around streets where no one goes, although Venice gets crowded at 3 pm during weekend! I took stunning photos! Marco... More

I met Marco at the Baglioni Hotel Luna around 7 am and we ventured off to back alleys and canals for the next few hours. I learned so much about photography and appreciate a whole different view of Venice now. This was such an enjoyable morning in the company of this very kind and wonderful gentleman. I would highly recommend... More

I cannot say enough positive things about Marco Secchi and this private photo walk. It was well worth the price. My husband and I were fortunate enough to find that Marco was available at the time we were in Venice. I love photography, but have no experience. We walked around with him with an iPhone and a basic point and... More

We only had time for the 2 hour mini walk in the afternoon, but we still learned a lot. I don't really need a lot of instruction on the technical side, but Marco really help me improve my composition and finding better locations. My fiancée also found him extremely helpful and engaging. He is patient, gentle, friendly and does not... More

Our family of four with 16 and 10 year olds did an early morning photo tour of Venice. The day before I was worried that the rest of the family might find it boring as I was the one with the camera or that Marco may not click with us. As it turned out it was the highlight of our... More

Venice was far more crowded than I expected. Having Marco guide us away from the chaos was such a delight. Marco is kind, funny, knowledgeable and talented. (My iPhone photos from his tour are the best photos of my 4 day stay in Venice!) I loved hearing his personal stories about growing up in Venice, (driving a boat to school... More

We did a 2 hour photo walk with Marco this morning which was absolutely fantastic. It was great to see Venice at the start of the day when things are still quiet and Marco took us to a perfect combination of the main sites and also the hidden views that you need a local to find. We are both very... More

Started my week-long trip to Venice with an early morning Photo Walk with Marco Secchi and could not have made a better choice. We toured back alleys for amazing shots away from traffic and meandered non-traditional routes to Saint Marks Square and other landmarks with plenty of detail on the history of Venice as well as really good photography tips,... Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
