The area
Neighbourhood: San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

Didn’t even get to eat here because we wanted to go for breakfast, they have no breakfast options so a heads up. My family members went to the bathroom before taking a look at the menu , upon which one of the servers accosted my family that it was 11:30 and that we were stupid for wanting breakfast and that we should look at the time as it was most obviously next time. We found one option that was breakfast but we didn’t want the one breakfast option they had. So we told the waiters we were going to leave. (we were there all of 5 minutes). We were yelled at by half the restaurant wait staff for only coming in there to use the toilet, not the case it was our full intention to eat there. Also the bathrooms were extremely dirty so I gladly would have gone somewhere else if I had known they had no breakfast options. DO NOT GO HERE, there are plenty of other options around with much kinder servers go somewhere else.

Ah was just a lovely dining out experience. Great value for money too. Great attention from our lovely waiter Giulio and also from Bepi who served our desert. 5 stars. Really great.

We had just been to La Fenice for the tourist trip around it. We were then looking for another theatre that I had read about that was only open on Thursday afternoons. We happened across the Goldoni, and went in and asked if you were allowed to look around. For €5, you get an audio guide and are allowed to pretty much wander as you want around the public parts of the theatre (much different to La Fenice, where you are watched wherever you go). The main theatre hall may be much smaller than La Fenice and not decorated to the same level of opulence, but the Goldini is fascinating never the less. The audio guide is full of interesting detail, and is provided with touches of humour. Well worth seeking out.

Not to be missed on your next trip to Venice. We saw "Arlecchino furioso," laughed ourselves silly, had the most wonderful time. Historically informed commedia dell'arte show with contemporary references woven in. Very intimate, incredibly imaginative use of space, English and French super-titles.

We loved our experience at the beautiful Teatro Goldoni - their production of Arlecchino Furioso - a commedia dell’arte farce - moves at a furiously athletic pace and elicits guffaws and snorts of delight. Set in bleacher-style seats at the back of the stage, facing the beautiful house, with all of the action at the apron, it's a unique opportunity to enjoy an intimate production in an elegant theatre. Highly recommended!

Lovely performance, but the staff are quite rude. Two staff members were looking at their mobile phone and laughing among themselves. My daughter wanted a picture with them, as they were standing outside in period costume. When I asked politely to take a picture, they were quite rude in their tone, said they were too busy working, and then turned their back to me, and continued laughing at what was on their mobile phone. Please don't be so rude, as its unnecessary.

Enjoyed an evening watching the Arrlecchino play in which the actors had done a superb adaptation of this old play. Be sure to obtain a flyer to receive a reduction in ticket price.

We went during Carnival and The Goldoni Experience didn't start until 8:30 pm. It was entertaining but the English titles are placed too high to read and are poorly translated. A charming smaller theatre and an odd tribute to Carlo Goldoni proving he made the right decision to depart Venice for France! This show does provide a view of Goldoni type characters but you'd be better off to actually view a Carlo Goldoni play. It seemed to depict modern day Venice with her weaknesses exposed and true to the satire of Goldoni.

The theater was beautiful inside, although not as ornate as others. We went to an operetta (The Merry Widow) which was very entertaining despite not understanding any Italian. There is no live orchestra, but for the price that makes sense. Overall, it was a great evening.

Chanced uon this while walking round town and the menu looked good, Gnocchi was great as was the cotoletto milanese while the deserts were perfect. But what made this so good was not the just above average food but the great and engaging service from Michaela and the other members of the team

Saluti.
