The tourist attractions around the square are great but the evening is when the sure comes alive. You can either just stand and watch the cafe bands or sit down and have a drink and a coffee but expect to pay 6 Euro at your...More

A beautiful church, richly decorated, with tombs of important men of the Republic of Venice. Don't miss the ancient Hospital nearby, with a spectacular library and a little museum of medical instruments.

This basilica is located next to the main hospital in Venice. It is in a quiet area, devoid of the hoards of tour groups, which makes for a pleasant visit. Definitely worth seeking out.

Situated next to the hospital we walked in by chance. It's another example of a modest basilica (with some lovely stain glass and incredibly high ceilings) packed full of amazing artworks. Another bonus is the nice cafe and gelato stand across the street.

This is a great area to stay - far from the madding crowd but full of history and art. We spent a lot of time here and loved it.

This vast edifice, visible from many parts, houses some unexpected delights. Take a guide book or you may miss some (but that just makes a return visit necessary).

This church has a lot of art. If you enjoy the works of Bellini, this is the place. With the "all churches" ticket you can visit here, or buy single.

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri

within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over
one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime
neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side
streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals
