This seems to be an annual event which supports craftsmen and women who are pursuing their craft using traditional materials and methods in order to keep that knowledge and experience alive in the face of the relentless march of technology. The quality and the range...More

This small island just a one stop 5 minute crossing on the number 2 vaporetto is well worth a short visit for the views back across the lagoon to St Marks Square. We were even luckier to discover the Homo Faber cultural exhibition on the...More

We skipped across the water to go up the bell tower. It was a few euros each, but totally worth it. There was no waiting to get up or see from any vantage point. I am sure there must be more to explore there, like...More

We visited the island to see the Homo Faber event of craftmanship. It was incredibly exciting and stimulating to see such astoundingly beautiful artefacts of ceramics, wood, glass and so on. The work of so many masters assembled was really really special. And amazing, all...More

Do yourself a favor and take vaporetto #2 from S. Zaccaria to San Giorgio. The church is nice inside but not memorable. The view of Venice; however, is not to missed.

This is a must go to place. Apart from being a lovely church in it's own right, from the tower it has the most amazing view of Venice. It only costs a few euros to ascend the tower and the bonus is that there is...More

A 5-minute water bus ride from St Marco Vallaresso stop (10 euro round trip). Not crowded at all so no need to pre-order tickets to visit the tower, which offers a nice view of the surrounding.

The best thing about the island of San Giorgio Maggiore is the view from the top of the campanile (6€ entrance). From there you can really see all of Venice and watch the boats speeding up in the canals and the laguna. Lovely!! The church...More

We went here because a really nice local girl in an art exposition recommended it. She said "in the bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore you will get the best view of Venice" and she wasnt lying. The bell tower fee is like 5euros. We...More

Worth heading over to this island (especially if you have the €20 all-day boat pass). Free entry into the church, but €6pp for entrance to the tower. Really recommend going up the tower (lift only - no stairs ! ) as the 360 views are...More

Yes, and everywhere is beautiful. Make sure you go up the bell tower as well as viewing Tintoretto’s “Last Supper” ( which I found tricky to photograph due to placement of church “spot lights”). Enjoy.
