About
Birthplace of the famous playwright Carlo Goldoni, Palazzo Centani in San Polo houses a small museum of Venetian theatrical memorabilia. It hosts various teaching activities and also a puppet-theatre from Ca’ Grimani ai Servi, formerly part of the Ca’ Rezzonico collection. The archive and library (over 30,000 works) are of significant importance, including theatrical texts, studies and original manuscripts.

The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

They have a fantastic collection of puppets. Sadly, our enjoyment of them was heavily disturbed by the extremely creepy attendant who paced continually throughout the small museum, making a great deal of noise from his shoes, and every minute coming and standing uncomfortably close to us. It was extremely off-putting and totally inappropriate behaviour. Even staring at him (from a distance of literally about 30cm) and asking whether he had a problem didn't seem to faze him.
So if you visit here to see the great puppet collection, I am very sorry if you happen to walk upstairs and find a fairly young, tall attendant. Because he's a freak.
The staff member on the reception desk was deeply unfriendly too, and didn't say a word to us.

The person in the two rooms didn’t allow us to visit the library even if all the libraries are public.
She was really not nice compare to the person at the ticket counter that was really nice and helpful.
Carlo godono house Is not an interesting visit pay 5 euro.
To see nothing and even the film about carlo Goldoni was Really superficial nothing interesting about him apart that he did travel

This is a small museum that contains little of interest. I've seen a Goldoni play, but that's as far as my acquaintance with his works goes, so perhaps I am not the target audience. However, since I was passing I thought I would pop in. Not a good €5 worth. The exhibits are limited and of little merit. The best bit is the 10-minute video, which, like the information about the exhibits, is only in Italian. I am frankly surprised that this very modest operation survives.

We visited this house because we are interested in the the theatre and not because it was included in any city card. For that reason, we were not comparing it with Palaces in the City, simply as a home, although we have been to a number of the grander houses over the last few days. There are not a huge number of exhibits but the costumes, marionettes and items relating to the theatre in Venice at the time of Goldoni are well presented. On entry we were handed an English Translation of a guide to Goldoni's times in Venice and in the first room there is comfortable seating to enable you to read the guide before commencing the tour. All the staff were friendly and helpful, additionally there is a well stocked shop on the ground floor. Anybody who has seen the recent National Theatre revival of "A Servant Of Two Masters" with James Corden will enjoy this house, just do not expect grand paintings and decor.

I visited this site in October 2010 with my wife on our 25th wedding anniversary. I suspect that this place may be a great spot if you are a particular fan of Goldoni but we are not and the visit was short and even at that pretty non-descript (boring). We really went to this site as it was included on the museum pass we had. Lesson learned - go where you want to go and not where is cheap or convenient. The area of San Polo you are in to make this visit is excellent for mark making spots so, do yourself a favour and miss this museum and go somewhere else. The displayed are static and sparce. It will take you about 10-15 minutes to see all this place has to offer. Go to nearby Ca Rezzonico instead.

I was not familiar with the Italian playwright, Carlo Goldoni. The only reason we visited his house was because it was included in our Venezia Unica card. It was not the highlight of our trip to Venice.

We went to this place as it was on the Unica Venezia museum pass but not sure we would have gone if we had to pay for this. It is a bit rustic compared to other palazzos that are included on the pass

Despite not knowing anything about Carlo, we found this strange but welcoming home thoroughly enjoyable. If you enter with no expectations, a museum pass and good, lighthearted company- you can’t go wrong.

We had an hour to spare before leaving Venice, so popped into this museum. There wasn't a great deal to see, but what there was was interesting enough and the entrance fee wasn't expensive (reduction for seniors).

OK, this is one of the 9 houses Carlo Goldoni lived during this stay in Venice but yet you have the amazing original features welcoming you right from the entrance door.
Not many exhibits inside but you have some representative of his era together with lots of little items.
You have a video being featured in a room, what a pity is only in Italian and therefore lost on those who might not speak the lingua.
