DiscoveringVenice is run by Antonella, Eugenia and Federica. We are Registered Tourist Guides since 2000. We offer a wide range of private tours. We also offer semi-private tours: a perfect way to share costs with other travellers like you. The private tours we organize can be either on foot or by private boat (Gran Canal, small canals, islands of the lagoon - Murano, Burano, Torcello). We are keen to organize customized exclusive tours to make you discover the "hidden Venice" and its back-streets, as well as the monumental classic Venice.

My husband and I spent an entertaining and informative holiday morning (St. Mark's Day) with Patrizia touring the Dodge's Palace and the streets of Venice. Patricia is charming, knowledgeable about history and art and the local restaurants and neighborhoods. The best part our time with Patrizia was hearing about growing up in Venice and even visiting the lovely restored church... More

My friend and I took our daughters (all in their 20's) on a trip to Venice and scheduled a walking tour of the Doges Palace, St Marks Basilica and the surrounding neighborhood with Patrizia Bracceschi. It was a delightful and informative 2.5 hours! Patrizia was a wonderful tour guide with an expansive knowledge of her native city, Venice. She knew... More

We had such a wonderful tour of Venice, ( the Doge Palace, St. Mark's and a walking tour of the streets of Venice,) with our guide, Patrizia Bracceschi. She knew so much about the city, the palace, about the history of Venice, and even where to get the best gelato! (She was SO right!) For instance, she showed us what I... More

Had Antonella show us around. It was friendly, bespoke and a real insight into the city from a Venetian. It made our subsequent stay in Venice highly focussed and the tips Antonella suggested were invaluable. Fully recommended!

I visited Venice in March 2017 with my mother, who had never been to the "Serene Republic" before. We booked the "In Depth St. Mark's Basilica Tour" with Federica. I chose this tour because I had visited Venice a couple of years ago and took a group tour, which was nice, but I knew my mother, who is religious and... More

We booked the classic Venice walking tour with interiors which included the Doge Palace and St Mark's. Our guide, Federica, met us at our hotel and was very friendly and excellent. She gave us lots of information but was delivered in a way that held our interest throughout. As it was just me and my mum on the tour she... More

Frederica and the tour of the Dorsodura area of Venice was a highlight of our stay. Places we had walked by the day before when we had no knowledge came to life under Frederica tutelage. We traveled in March and Venice was not crowded. Frederica's tour was lovely, educational and interesting. She kept all 4 of us engaged and filled... More

We arranged a tour for just the two of us, having never visited Venice before. This proved to be the perfect way to start our 4 day Trip. Federica met us at our hotel (Danieli), listened to what we wanted to see together with our personal interests and tastes and then over the next 4 hours showed us so much... More

Francesca was an outstanding guide. We booked three hours for a family of 7, ages 14-late 70s. She pitched her tour exactly right, engaging us all in her great depth of historical and artistic detail, but never overwhelming us with too much information. We recommend this as a perfect start to a stay in Venice, providing the backdrop to exploring... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
