Neighbourhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Nice way to spend the afternoon
A nice way to spend an afternoon. Relatively small, but several different rooms, as well as the sculpture garden and a place for special/ visiting exhibitions. Lovely view out on the grand canal as well. The cafe is nice (though pricey!). Another plus – there is a changing table for babies in the bathroom (very rare to see in Venice/ Italy!). On (some?) Sundays, there is a kids' art activity that you can prebook on the website. This looked fun!

Easy to imagine living here among all of the art work
The entrance is near gift shop, not on the big lagoon. We ordered tickets before we left the US for first thing in the morning so there were not a lot of people for a few minutes. The outside patio which sits on the lagoon is beautiful, one can just imaging guests arriving there to visit Peggy and her beautiful art collection.

    Interesting and enjoyable
After a relaxing? vaporetto (ferry) ride and a lovely stroll through the neighbourhood, you arrive at the gate of the Penny Guggenheim Museum. Highly recommended, to avoid any disappointment or frustration, purchase your tickets on line. It is a ticketed and timed entrance situation however, once in, there is no pressure whatsoever to leave! Do not expect any “traditional” type of artwork. In my opinion, there are pieces to amuse, challenge and puzzle you however, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Museum itself is a beautiful rambling building with stairs. I did not remember seeing a lift … see the website for mire information. Each room or section had a guide who could answer many of your questions regarding pieces, and I found these guides interesting and very enthusiastic about the art. I finished my tour with a glass of Prosecco in their beautiful restaurant courtyard, and found it very hard to leave.

Peggy Guggenheim Collection Venice, in May
Came here on a Thursday morning as had some time to spend before our flight. Some interesting works, not a big museum, bought timed tickets in advance but they let us in 30 mins earlier than time booked. There is a Cafe which is pleasant, with indoor and outdoor seats, had a summer salad that was very good. Definitely worth a 90 minute visit.

Entrancing, magical, essential for art lovers!
Simply the best collection of modern art I've ever visited. Once in a life-time experience and opportunity to see (as a contemporary art lover) the real greats. For the love of all that is beautiful, GO!

    Very special place
Where do I start? This is the most amazing place to visit and take in the collection, the building, the terrace and the grounds, oh and the Grand Canal at the front! A superb and welcoming place. You can almost feel how Peggy Guggenheim would have lived there with her dogs, art and friends … gondolas floating past...

    Excellent!
Fantastic! If you are an art lover, you will love this place. Lovely surprise of a Duchamp exhibit that just started. There’s an entire room of Pollock paintings. Mostly contemporary art which makes sense given Guggenheim’s company she kept during her life. If I ever win the lottery, I’m becoming Peggy Guggenheim.

A Quiet Spot on the Grand Canal
The exhibits are varied and outstanding. The galleries (for the most part) are air conditioned. The sculpture garden serves as a quiet respite from the hoards of Venice. It beautiful outdoor deck offers great views and photo opportunities of the Grand Canal. And the admission price is reasonable and good value.

    Wonderful Collection
It was nice to visit a beautiful 20th century collection of modern art after spending the past several days admiring all the masters of traditional art. The audio tour was well done and worth the cost. It is a small museum and can be done easily in an hour. Beautiful building on the canal.

    Great place to visit
Great exhibition to visit. Worth getting the audio as we found it very interesting to know more about the sculptures & paintings. The narrator has a nice voice & certainly opened up our eyes for the art. The staff very friendly & easy to walk around - we spent a couple of hours & had found it really interesting to hear Peggy Guggenheim’s story.

A relaxed art gallery, giving a good insight into 20th century classic painters. Picasso, Ernst, Dali, Delaunay, Pollock in a few rooms overlooking the Grand Canal. Very crowded however.

I visited this museum 15 years ago and remember loving it. Unfortunately this experience was not nearly as good as the museum was exceptionally crowded with teenage school groups. It was hard to enjoy the art with the crowds and teen groups.

Not sure what the museum can do about it other than perhaps limit the numbers of school groups.

This is the third Guggenheim museum I have visited. Each one is unique and its own way, but this one had a more personal touch. We paid for the private tour and it was worth it. We received not just our history background, but of the home itself.

The guides are very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Put this on your list to do in Venice.

Great museum, great exhibition on, lots of famous art Picasso and Pollock. We spent an hour here and bought tickets online very short line and audio guide available for €5 however wasn’t needed as a few English descriptions of paintings.
