A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the building and its sculptural...

A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the building and its sculptural decoration date from various periods. The interior, with works by artists such as Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, A.Vittoria and Tiepolo, includes vast council chambers, superbly decorated residential apartments, and austere prison cells. Along the facades of the Palace run loggias that overlook St. Mark’s Square and the lagoon. The combined entrance ticket to the St. Mark’s Square Museums grants access to the Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Monumental Rooms of Biblioteca Marciana.

I recently toured the Doge's palace and found it extremely interesting. There was much to learn and see. I could have stayed much longer. I was a bit disappointed that the princesses' rooms were closed for renovations and i was not told that when i bought my ticket. It was the main thing i wanted to see. However the ticket... More

One of the just sites to see! Can't be compared to Vatican of course but it's a beautiful palace and you won't be sorry. Enjoy!

If there is one attraction to spend some time in and visit in Venice, it is the Doge's Palace. Visiting this with the right guide will give you a deep and wide understanding of the history of the Venetian Republic, and will give ypu perspective to be able to appreciate and enjoy all that is Venice!

Having the time to look at things is important, but on our 'skip the line' queue we spend more time trying to navigate the crowds than looking at some of the stunning artwork in the Palace. The strong Italian accent of the guide was distorted by the earpiece and much of the commentary was hard to understand. Our group was... More

A great way to immerse yourself in the history of this beautiful city. Fascinating to learn about the Doges and how they managed the great trading empire of northern Italy.

Many crowds, busy, vibrant and exciting place. Just having to sit and take view of the place is splendid.

Doge's palace was very interesting. It is a self-guided tour that requires sensible shoes to navigate.

If you're a sucker for art, history, or architecture (or all three), this place is a must, and I highly recommend a guided tour. It's the best way to soak up the fascinating stories about how Venice was run, as well as appreciate all the details in the structure and the paintings that adorn it.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
