Every time we come to Venice, we seem to find our way back here. There is something magical that happens when you look across the canal and see this traditional gondola boatyard. Can you even think of Venice without thinking of gondolas? This is where...More

From across the canal, you get to see the gondola be made and repaired. It's not a busy place, while we were there only one guy was working on one boat. But there is a bar on the side of the canal where you can...More

It is quite interesting and fascinating watching the boat building and maintenance of the boats. This is a rather small area but full of activity it seems. If you have nothing better it makes time go by quickly.

Tucked away a block north off the Zattere is this little square that is home to a Gondola yard. It first opened in the 1600's and is well worth the detour to search it out and look at how Gondolas are made and repaired. No...More

We were taken here as part of a private tour (2 people). The guide acted as interpreter. Fascinating insight into how gondolas are built and maintained. I am not sure how you would access this visit but would highly recommend it - not cheap but...More

Sitting outside on the canal, eating cicchetti and sipping on some wine while watching the Venetian gondola builders repair/build was such an enjoyable experience. Is only a short walk from Accademia bridge

If you are walking along the Zattere, turn North along the Fondamenta Nani. A few hundred meters along you can look across the canal to see a gondola building and maintenance shop in action! The number of gondolas in Venice has declined as motorboats become...More

Having seen a segment on "How Do They Do It" about gondola construction, I was particularly interested in visiting a boat yard. Our hotel directed us to Squero di San Trovaso. As others have noted, they do not give tours, however you can get some...More

Took my brother, a Venice veteran who'd never heard of it. I'd been shown it by a guide who told us the reason this gondola boatyard looks so Swiss. It's because a lot of the original architecture of the Veneto was built by people from...More
