About three years ago when in Venice I attended Musica a Palazzo and it was the highlight of my short holiday. So, when in Venice again just now I booked and went again. It was La Traviata this time. The ambience of the Palazzo Barbarigo and the wonderful quality of the singing and playing were, again, outstanding. I love opera... More

Enjoyed my time there, A remembrance of our classical musical inheritance. Even the trip over there with the boat is amazing.

Having such an intimate setting made the experience much better than a traditional opera. The venue was very picturesque and added to the atmosphere. The talent of then Vocoloists and Musicians was incredible, this is a definite 'must do' when coming to venice! Great night and ran very well.

We regularly go to the opera and have seen La Traviata before. We though this seemed a novel idea and booked . We were not disappointed. The small rooms added to the drama of the performance and vibrancy of the voices. We would recommend arriving early and scouting out the venue before as is quite tricky to find. If possible... More

We have visited them twice in the last few months, so that by itself speaks about how much we like it. We have seen Barber of Sevilla and La Traviata. Both experiences were similar: something unique (even the second time you visit it). Instead of having an invisible barrier between the stage and the audience, you are in the middle... More

The idea to provide an opera piece in a historical building in a pictoresque atmosphere is quite great. Nonetheless my expectations were a bit higher, given we had to pay 75euro each for the night, which lasted a bit more than one hour. The show and the singers were good, but seats were not allocated and one has to rush... More

We'd never been to an opera before, we're not opera buffs and don't listen to opera music! Why on Earth then, you might ask, did we go to see La Traviata at the Musica A Palazzo? Well, we figured, if not in Venice, then when? And we were so glad we went. This is a stunning experience that will move... More

A must to do. Opera in Palazzo, intimate and close atmosphere. Somehow we were sitting in first two rows (audience was moving between rooms). Forget about prosecco and simply get your best places to hear and almost to touch singers. A quartet of excellent musicians and superb singers performing also in La Scala. A real highlight of our trip to... More

Incredible performance from the musicians and the singers. We were amazed how talented the performers are. One good mini break in between with prosecco and other drinks. Reception starts at 8 but do get there at least 15 mins earlier to make sure you get good seats for the first act. May have been mentioned by the others, audience has... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
