we attended La Traviata on Saturday evening, it blew us away! such a unique way to experience Opera as part of it. We got there quite late and the only seats left where right next to the performance area, so the rest of the audience are looking at you. this obviously put everybody else off from sitting in the front... This is a must for anyone who appreciates live music with a dash of humour! This is one of our most fondest memories whilst being in Venice. Highly recommended for a beautiful evening!

We had wanted to go to the opera while in Venice and Musica a Palazzo was the only one during our stay. We were in luck and had the most enjoyable evening! A great location, like inside an old house, la Traviata was performed by a cast of three (can't find their names, but the lady was absolutely amazing. She... More

When I was looking for an evening at the opera in Venice, I was a bit disappointed that the more "typical" theaters either didn't have anything during the time of my stay or just not anything I was interested in seeing. But, when I came across Musica a Palazzo and saw some of the videos of it on YouTube, I... More

Four of us enjoyed a wonderful evening of relaxed and intimate opera as we moved from room to room to experience snippets of La Traviata. A unique opera experience and the performers both the musicians and the opera singers were extremely good.

Saw The Barber of Seville on Sunday evening. This was a superb experience. Absolutely loved it. Would definitely recommend it and go again if ever back in Venice. Some reviewers have said it is expensive for what it is. We don't agree. Have seen 'traditionally' staged opera and opera in an open air picnic setting. This experience of being within... More

My wife and I were lucky - we arrived early with our forms filled out o got the best seats - imagine my surprise at being embraced by Violetta when she made her entrance and the privilege of her serving me prosecco as part of the performance. She went full circle with my wife - she fainted resting against my... More

Barber of Seville - where to start? Entertaining from start to finish - the strong voices and energy from all of the performers was just jaw dropping! Advise to arrive early to sign in and find a seat. Be quick with your drink during intermission to get a good spot at the next scene. The interaction during the performance at... More

Simply superb. Powerful voices great drama and an incredible operatic performance . You won't get this close ever unless you happen to be part of the opera itself . And given this is Rigoletto watch out you might end stabbed by a hired assassin! Some parts of this were really beautiful others frighteningly austere. The genius of the performance was... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
