This is a main canal from The Grand Canal to the Lagoon. It is the route the vaporettos takes going to Murano/Burano and other points in the lagoon. Along the entire canal run, on both sides two Fondamente this allows easy access to the buildings along the canal. There are also 2 unique bridges that cross, Ponte delle Guglie (bridge of spires) and Ponte dei Tre Archi (bridge of 3 arches). Well worth wandering along the banks of the canal to get a taste of local Venice.

This is a neat canal in a really cool neighborhood. It's worth exploring and seeing this area for yourself.

There are only 3 main canals in this is one of them. Originally constructed in 11 century it’s name means ‘royal canal’ in the northern area of the city ie Cannareigo.
It was originally until late 1800’s the main artery into the city, until the railway/road bridge was built which linked Venice with the mainland. This are is where local venetians live, and to the right of the canal is ‘the Getto’.
Some days of the week you will see a small market on the right selling fresh fish. There are two bridges that cross it the Ponte Delle Guglie and Ponte dei Tre Archi.
A rather dull rather drab part of the city this canal/and the fondamenta’s either side have the odd lovely palazzo and a couple of churches. Just after the Guglie bridge on the left is Palazzo Savorgnan, walk to the end by the lagoon is the University Ca’ Foscari.
This is a fascinating lonely part of the city, where tourists are very few. Well away from the hustle and bustle further down the grande canale- but worth a visit.
