Can't believe this cathedral is overlooked- there's Titian and Paris Bordone pieces inside, and it's free of charge!!!
Very pleasant neoclassical interior, make note of the illusionist frescoes on the cupola.

This is a huge building topped by seven domes with an enormous facade in neoclassical style. Not less than seven big columns support the triangular frieze. The cathedral was built in 1768 after an older structure was demolished. The facade was added in 1836, a time when the Roman Catholic church was well established. Quite noticeable, the architecture underscores the power of the church.
The interior is spacious and rather sober, but light. There are some remarkable pieces of art among them a Titian from around 1520, the 'Malchiostro Annunciation'. Personally I liked a late 15th century sculpture by Andrea Bregno (predecessor of Michelangelo) depicting a visit to Mary. A wonderful masterpiece.

Many people who visit northern Italy visit Venice, but they should also visit Treviso! A good place to start is Treviso Cathedral, built in the neoclassical style with its imposing row of columns at the main door. Inside it is quite light with many interesting features to see. Everybody goes to visit "The Annunciation" by Titian, (in a chapel next to the sanctuary) but we should also remember that one of its famous sons is Joseph Sarto - Pope Saint Pius X. He was Cathedral Canon, Diocesan Chancellor and Spiritual Director of the seminary from 1875 to 1884, before being appointed Bishop of Mantua. To the right of the sanctuary is the altar dedicated to Saint Pius X, with a bronze statue sculpted by Toni Benetton in 1954 (the year of his beatification). Inside the sanctuary are two paintings depicting him as pope as well as a carved inscription above the Canons seat that he occupied in the cathedral as Canon. The crypt is also very interesting, housing the tombs of the Treviso bishops. Around the back is the Diocesan Museum – well worth a visit (but only open a few days a week) and also a recently discovered Roman pavement, possible from some ancient Roman baths.

A rather plain Baroque cathedral covers the beauty of the huge pillared Romanesque crypt dating from the 12rh century AD. There has been a church complex on this site since the 6th century AD

After seeing the Church of Saint Nicolo I walked to see the cathedral. The last Mass for the day had finished, but there was still one of the priests in a confessional available for confessions. Photos are permitted, as long as no flash is used. Until I saw the title of the church here, I had no realized it was the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle. The church is very clean, and will take a couple of hours to see. There was a crypt, but it was closed, so I wasn't able to see that part of the facility. Next time!

Always interesting to visit an historic place like this Cathedral. Big as many typical churches of the time, the cathedral is at the end/beginning of the pedestrian area. We visited the Cathedral from inside, including the crypt. Absolutely disappointing to see how they do business on everything, including the lights to enlighten the crypt....

Note - the cathedral (Duomo in Italian) closes for "lunch" at noon. Beautiful cathedral for the town of Treviso. First time I visited, the crypt was open. Second time it was closed.
See pictures of the nice frescoes of the crypt. There is also a nice Titian on the right side of the main altar.

The cathedral is a mix of styles; outside, from the back, you can see how many different "pieces" are put together. The interior is big and a bit empty, the best part is the crypt. Better to get the atmosphere for a while without the light, and then put the light on (you need 1 euro) to discover the magnificent frescos at the walls and on the columns and ceiling, and the colorful autel.

The best part is the picture from across the street. The augmented facade is impressive but that was about all for me.

Come può leggere dalla mia recensione non abbiamo avuto molto tempo per visitarla infatti dopo una breve entrata ci hanno fatto accomodare perchè doveva chiudere per la pausa pranzo. Saluti
