the center of town and close to the flower and vegetable stands...nice enough and good cafe's to enjoy some eats.
All of the guided tours start here and it is a very good meeting place and there is a food store down two levels should you want to purchase food or drink.

We visited Bolzano for the day to see the Christmas market.

The Christmas Market was held in the Piazza Walther the town square.

This is the focal point of Bolzano's old town, and dates to the early 1800s.

Cafes and shops line the area, and the duomo sits on one end.

This place is the heart of the old town. When we were there there was a music festival with small orchestras. From this place nice view on the church.

This is the central piazza of Bolzano, but it isn't much of an attraction in itself. Bolzano is a unique Italian city that seems more like Austria than Italy. It's easy to walk everywhere and very pedestrian friendly.

A great town center. There are parking garages below the square which makes access convenient for an otherwise pedestrian only area. Lots of cafes. The square leads on to a major shopping district. Just a fun day out.

If you're driving north out of Italy this Piazza will make it clear that Austria and Germany are not far away; it certainly has a Germanic rather than Italian feel. But there are some good cafes and restaurants and fine buildings to see including the Duomo which has a very unusual exterior roof for this part of the world - it looks like it should be in Beaune in Burgundy. And what a pleasure that the central statue is of a musician (the 14th century Walther von der Vogelweide) rather than the usual 19th century politician. And the square has a cafpark directly underneath it so makes a great location for starting your perambulations around Bolzano.

we enjoyed a coffee at a lovely little cafe on the piazza and enjoyed the spring time sun shine and the beautiful magnolia tree blossom.

Really nice broad square with many cafés and restaurants, interesting buildings, and stunning view of the mountains (in the winter at least). The roof of the church is interesting and adds some character to the piazza.

The old town of Balzano is a nice place to visit. Pretty Church, lots of quaint little shops and out-door restaurant, and it is an easy walk from the tram at del Renon. We felt very safe walking around the open-air market is fabulous and large.
