Bolzano’s traffic is very Italian, very hectic. Park near the train station, 1.50 euro per hour. 5 minutes walk into the centre. The road is pedestrianised, very busy. Had something to eat and drink on piazza Walter, most restaurants are not open all day and open after 6.

The stores are mostly closed on Sunday so make sure you choose another day to shop in this adorable town.

While we found the city as a whole and this street of shops very beautiful there were numerous scammers accosting people as they walked through the town. They seemed to target those who were alone and did not speak the language well. You had to be very aggressive to get them to leave you alone. They would try to get you to take an item out of their hand to look at an then berate you to pay them for it. During our trip which included Munich, Verona, Venice we never encountered anything of this magnitude. Bolzano officials need to get a better handle on these scammers.

When you visit Merano it's a musst do to walk along this street. Lot's of shops and things to see. I love the fact that there are - unequal to many other cities - still a lot of individual stores and not only the shops you find in every city.

I wanted to rate it a four, except that we go here almost a few times a week. Last vist ( a month) we went 5 to 7 times a week. So really, it is a must do. Shops, restaurants, and bakeries. Expensive to cheap. Also the museum. The Farmers market is on one end and the Utzi museum is on the other. If you havent booked rooms yet, stay nearby, as everything is near this street that you will want to walk to . I see many people think this can be done in under an hour. I say no way. You can go for less time, but you can also spend significant time here. Or, a little, every time you come to do something else. Covered walkways on both sides of the street. NO PROBLEM IN RAIN.

It's a nice walk on the heart of Bolzano, with inumerous shops and places to eat.
I think the best way to enjoy it and not waste your time is to go thru it while going from the Archeological Museum to Renon cable car station ( a walk that takes 15-25 minutes depending on how fast you walk)

Via dei Portici (Laubengasse) is a 300 meters long street in Bolzano pedestrian area in the city center, with medieval porticoed buildings. Most buidings now host high-street shops.

The main street in the old city, arcades on both sides... pleasant by any weather! Mostly small shops. Very nice indeed.
