In itself just a bridge over the Po, but has absolutely gorgeous views of the river and of the surrounding buildings such as the Gran Madre di Dio church.

According to the internet, this bridge is the oldest in Turin. There was a wooden version used in ancient Roman times and the current stone version was built after the overthrow of Napoleon.

Interesting to me, the structure seen at one end of the bridge, looking like The Pantheon, was built around the same time and for the same reason.

It’s title is, The Great Mother of God. I immediately thought of The Holy Trinity, where, in Catholicism, 3 exist as one God. My tour guide fortunately directed us to a great cafe found at the base of the Mother of God temple/church. We had a delicious aperitivo with the awesome views.

Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I is a historic bridge that crosses the Po River in Central Turin. There originally was a wooden bridge on the site of the current bridge which was forever needing to be repaired so a new stone bridge was constructed but was completely destroyed in 1706 by a flood. Turin was under the reign of Napoleon at the time and he ordered a new bridge to be built, the new bridge was completed in 1813. After the city was liberated from Napoleon the bridge was meant to be demolished but King Vittorio Emanuele I prevented this from happening and the bridge was ultimately named after him. I visited the bridge when I was in the city in July 2020, it is not a must-see but worth viewing whilst in the immediate vicinity.

The Po River goes all over the city of Turin. From here you will have a very nice view of the river. I strongly recommend you to come here at night, it is a very unique and romantic place.

A relatively small stone bridge, dressed with geraniums in the summer, it connect piazza Vittorio Veneto in its immensity to the Church of the Gran Madre di Dio that acts a backdrop, and from there with the hills of Turin, "La Collina". To the East, a damn that holds the Po river and rises its water level. To the West, the slightly higher Po that continues on toward the tall tower of the Trauma Center (CTO). From the bridge, one can get access to the Murazzi, a series of bars and night clubs at the center of Saturday nights' life, the so-called "movida".

This bridges was built by Napoleon. When finally the king come back he decided to keep the bridge and to build the church "Gran Madre di Dio". From it you can see beautiful landscape. It is very romantic! I put a photo of the bridge in 1820.

Crossing over the River Po at the bottom end of Piazza Vittorio Veneto is the lovely early nineteen century stone bridge, Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I, named after the King of the same name.

The Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I bridge is the major bridge that crosses the Po river.
It is quite a magnificent sight and is worth taking pics of.
There are also a few plaques worth examining if you are fluent in Italian.

At the end of Via Po is this bridge. It has such a great backdrop of the hills on one side and the large piazza on the other. It is very photogenic and a great place to take photos at the end of the day in the late afternoon sun.

I did not find the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I very attractive. It is a bridge that crosses the River Po, but I did not find anything beautiful in the design of the bridge. The views of the river and the river bank were quite good.
