The complex of vineyard and gardens was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century, on the model of the Roman villas, by Prince Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia. After his death (1657) there followed decoration campaigns for the wife Ludovica and, at the end of the century, for Anna d'Orleans, the wife of Vittorio Amedeo II, Duke of Savoy. The apartments and gardens of the Villa, referred to as those "of the Queen" after the Duke of Savoy took the royal title in 1713, were modernised by Filippo Juvarra for Carlo Emanuele III. In the middle of the eighteenth century stables and service buildings were put up. In 1865 Vittorio Emanuele II gave the residence to a female school (Istituto Nazionale per le Figlie dei Militari Italiani), which was active until 1975. Since 1994 restoration work have been carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The Villa has been open to the public since 2006.

Definitely would recommend to visit. Well maintained royal quarters, with beautiful garden. Unfortunately garden was closed during the winter. Beautiful view of Turin.

Pleasant enough to visit, but in need of some serious money spent. The gardens could be fabulous but totally neglected.

Husband insisted on coming because it has one of the very few urban wine vineyard. It has its own DOC. We knew it was too hot for a really good visit, but went anyway, €10 by Cab from Porta Nuova. Some interesting history but not...More

This is a lovely Villa, tucked away just behind the city and easily reached by bus. Apart from a visit of the villa and the gardens, in the summer months there are free classical music concerts performed in the garden - really lovely!

A villa with a great view on the city and some area to walk around. The rooms are pretty impressive especially when the artists played with volume in the decoration of the walls. Though the villa and gardens (if you can call it that, it...More

A beautiful location to explore, no matter whether it is summer or winter, but prepare and research before you arrive to get the full value of the visit to this location.
