About
The Museo delle Antichità Egizie is the only museum other than the Cairo Museum that is dedicated solely to Egyptian art and culture. Many international scholars, since the decipherer of Egyptian hieroglyphs Jean-François Champollion, who came to Turin in 1824, spend much time pouring over the collections. It was Champollion who famously wrote, “The road to Memphis and Thebes passes through Turin”.The collections that make up today’s Museum, were enlarged by the excavations conducted in Egypt by the Museum’s archaeological mission between 1900 and 1935 (a period when finds were divided between the excavators and Egypt). The Egyptian Museum in Turin has begun 2009 an important project which wants to widen spaces in order to enhance the collections through modern museographical and museological criteria. The Museum will be open all over the period of restoration and the New Egyptian Museum inauguration is scheduled for the year 2015.

    Great Museum
This is a great collection of Egyptian artefacts in a modern and well laid out museum. Good lighting also helps to provide dramatic effect particularly with the statues and mummies. Perhaps a few more interactive displays would have made this 5 stars.

A brilliant introduction to Ancient Egypt.
One could spend an entire day here and still not see everything. The descriptions (in Italian and English) are clear and informative. There's a convenient café providing refreshments and also a snack lunch, as and when needed.

    Egypt like never before
Well, this was one of the most educational and compelling tours we took. Our guide, Nasr Ammar was so knowledgable, it was like walking back in time to the glory days of Egyptian culture. Mr. Ammar even taught us how to read hieroglyphs. This was to be a two-hour tour and it could have been a three or four hour tour. The museum, as we learned, is the best for antiquities and only second to Cario's museum. I urge you to take the tour and make it a day. We certainly enjoyed Nasr, both personally and professsionally. A real scholar.

    Definitely a museum to visit
I was surprised by the size of the collection. It covered all aspects of Egyptian life over 4000 years ago including a wig of real hair. Although we were tired when we entered the museum we still took over 2 hrs to go round it. The insight into the lives of the middle classes was fascinating.

A must-see for anyone interested in Ancient Egypt
This museum is a must-see for anyone interested in Ancient Egypt. A free audio tour is available via QR code, so bring your ear buds/headphones. There is an amazing number of exhibits, and signage is in Italian and English. The visit starts with a history of the museum, explaining how these artifacts came to Italy, before the start of the exhibits. Also, there is a very convenient cafe with excellent paninis, bagels etc, which provided a much-needed break during our four-hour visit.

    A Must Do
Before my trip, I questioned whether I wanted to visit an Egyptian museum when I was in Italy. However, this museum exceeded all expectations! I did not do an organized tour nor audio tour, but instead wandered on my own and read the information on each exhibit (available in English, Italian and other languages). The mummies, artifacts, statues, and “Book of Death” are from another time!!! Totally cool and amazing. Do not miss the bottom level! Absolutely loved the Egyptian Museum.

    Captivating museum
I'm not usually a massive museum person - but the Museo Egizio is fascinating. We started our visit from the top. No museum can possibly properly display every piece it owns and here smaller pieces were at least on display in cramped glass cabinets. The museum proper started on the next floor down and continued chronologically through the history of Ancient Egypt. From time to time there were little detour rooms where processes were explained such as how to build a coffin. A free audio tour is available via QR code, so bring your ear buds/headphones. However, we just wandered and read what we wanted of the explanations next to the exhibits which are in Italian and English. The staff are extremely friendly and everything is organised impeccably - when entering my university student son was sent to a window to have his student I.D. checked (thus his paying €3 to my €18), the cloakroom staff ask what you want to store and direct you to the appropriate locker (we paid the mighty sum of €1 for the smallest locker to put our winter coats in), etc. Book on-line to beat the queues as we did.

    Would recommend
Very interesting museum! Visited with my girlfriend (who is usually not as interested in history as I am) and we both really liked the exhibition. I really liked that a path leads visitors through the building. It was very unfortunate that the Gallery of Kings (which I would’ve loved to see) was moved to another museum the day before we went there and therefore it was closed.

A real immersion in the old egyptian culture
If you visit Turin, please just include a visit in this museum. Even if I knew it is a world wide known museum everything was over my expectation! I learned a lot of things. A do it yourself visit may be long and/or superficial. I really suggest to book a guide tour! Maybe expensive but really usefull.

    Better explanation than Cairo museum
I have been to the Cairo museum albeit more than two decades ago. Though this museum doesnt have the grand pharoahic tombs and mummies, it did a much better job explaining the items and the various dynasties including an interesting part on pre- dynastic - a lot of information I was not aware of. There are a lot of wonderful displays including items from intact tombs, all laid out superbly chronologically. Took me 3 whole hours and I had to skip some bits at the end. Highly recommended, good value given the amount of information and large number of displays.

Don’t waste your money. For 15 euros I expected a better museum experience. Clearly the focus is on herding massive crowds through the door regardless of how it impacts on the quality of the experience. From the moment we arrived their was just shouting, pointing and ushering. We were funnelled through the gates with everyone else. At no point were we directed to where we could collect a map or an audio guide. Just someone looking at their watch and telling us to hurry up even tho we arrived during our booked time. After ascending numerous escalators we walked into the first room to see….. nothing. There are exhibits of course but the place was so crowded, mostly with school groups that you couldn’t get near anything nor read information labels. We tried walking around but every turn brought yet another raucous school group. It’s impossible to enjoy the museum like this, with the noise and the crowds and the pushing. We were also instructed to bring mask/face covering. Of course no one in there was wearing one except us. Given how much money we had spent we tried to persevere and thought we should return to the ground floor to get a map. Of course we were bellowed at yet again for going the wrong way. So clearly you are not free to enjoy the museum it’s purely a get in get out give us your money exercise in crowd control. By this point we had enough of the rude staff and the massive crowds and saw dozens and dozens more school groups gathering in the foyer so decided to leave. A truly awful experience. Its clear what the prime objective is here and it’s not Egyptology.

This museum is simply amazing and has on display very comprehensive, extensive and informative exhibitions. There I learnt that it was the oldest Egyptian museum in the world and second in significance of its artefacts only to the museum in Cairo!
Plenty of items of the Nilotic civilization are shown on several floors and many rooms, such as statues, sarcophagi, papyrus, mummies of humans, cats and even a monkey which could be quite embarrassing for some people, so keep that in mind. The audio-guides (in quite a number of languages) are preferred, especially if it is crowdy because it might be hard to get close to the descriptions of the exhibits.
We did not choose the "skip the line" option, just went there a little earlier and the line was not too long - buying tickets took about 20 minutes at max. Big bags and backpacks are not allowed in the museum and you will have to leave them in the lockers. Flash photography is not allowed but the light is sufficient for good photos.

This is the biggest Egyptian collection in Europe and the exposition has a quality that seizes you from the very beginning till the end. You can easily spent and entire day in here and still be captured by a deep sense of awe moving through the museum. The visit epilogue at the Gallery of Kings will make you speechless.

Nice Egyptian museum with seating. This place has A TON of Egyptian artifacts. They have so much that you will even be enamored by the "overstock" merchandise they have! There are 3 main floors and it is organized very well. If there was one complaint I did have, it would be that they have too much stuff. I don't like standing for too long and it took us around three hours to make the rounds. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting, but bring comfortable shoes. There are great shopping areas around the area and even a market on certain days, but I recommend the museum first, then the shopping if your feet allow. They do have a ton of free lockers. Ask the coat check for a key to a locker. You will have to leave your ID, but I feel it's more secure and in your control that way.

I came to Turin to especially see this museum - I got my entry through the Torino pass.

It’s a great museum with a free audio guide available via a QR code, the signs are all in italian and also in english and there is a very handy convenient cafe at the half way point to refresh.

They have some wonderful mummies and they explain the progression of mummification through the years very well. What is nice is the mummie exhibits are marked and there are warning for those who could be sensitive to that.

They have a lot and I did multiple entries to go and see everything because they have some fantastic items including tunics, makeup sets, hair accessories, Canopic jars and there cases a range of sarcophagus.

I highly recommend doing one of the tours with the tour guides as it was really informative.

The negatives:
It’s a bit of faff having to book your ticket online with the Torino pass and then have to stand in a long line to get in activated.

Compared to other museums there are less staff around at other museums it’s one staff member per room but here it was one per floor pretty much.

The gift shop could use some more items.

The Museo Egizio impresses with a large and comprehensive collection of artifacts of Egyptian antique works. The history of the found treasures such as pots, papyrus, mummies and sarcophagi are explained very well. Allow sufficient time (> 2h)

Fascinating museum! I was curious how there came to be an Egyptian museum in Turin and the history is well explained. There’s a lot about daily life in Egypt, from the Old Kingdom to the Romans and lots and lots of sarcophagi.
As the building is old, the small rooms can get crowded and you have to wait to see some displays. In the afternoon (3.30pm) there were school groups in many of the rooms, so it was loud as well.

We had a tour in English by a guide (from the museum) named Eduardo. Even those who are not interested in ancient Egypt will find interest in the museum and the Egyptian culture that Eduardo has shown us and explained fascinatingly. Thanks to Eduardo we loved every moment. It is a beautiful museum, special and different from all others.

We managed to squeeze in a visit to this spectacular museum between my son’s 10 day hospital stay after a ski accident, and the Covid-19 lockdown in March. This was his first day out of hospital, it was wonderful to feel normal, like tourists. We love taking fun pictures at Museums, thanks for allowing us to forget our worries for a day.
You have a stunning collection. I could have spent hours and hours admiring.

Excellent museum, great collection, well organized, but be aware that it’s all very dense so small kids won’t enjoy it. My 10 year old did Egypt as a theme at school so was more interested. My 7 year old who is fascinated by Egypt so was very excited about the visit got bored quickly. Be sure to charge your phone and take your earbuds, you can go around the museum use your phone as an audio guide. It’s a shame there’s not a section for making it more kids friendly.
