If you are even slightly interested in baroque churches, you shouldn't miss this one. It's enormous and includes many rooms and chapels apart from the main part. You can see on a wall where people have left "thank you" messages for e.g. recovering from accidents or ilnesses.

This is an absolutely stunning building, outside and inside. It appears that one or two previous reviewers didn't actually visit this location! The detail is awesome with an unusual layout with several small chapels around the outside. Of all the beautiful buildings we saw while in Italy, this one was undoubtedly one of the more memorable. There's a fascinating story about how, following a vision, a blind man found an icon in the crypt which then miraculously cured him! In the building there are lots of paintings on the walls showing how the icon has still been performing miracles more recently! This icon was the reason that so much care was taken decorating the interior of this building. It's worth looking in the crypt to see the stained glass window showing the discovery of the icon. The only slight downside was a woman working there who seemed determined not to help with a question we asked. However, in no way could any such occurrence detract from this being a five star verdict!

Unlike the larger cathedrals, this basilica is fairly plain on the outside. Inside it is astounding. Artwork and statuary occupies nearly every wall and ceiling space. The docents were very friendly and eager to help. There was no charge to enter and photography was allowed.

I've never seen a church layout in this style before, anywhere in the world. Even if the floorplan was more familiar, it would still be a breathtaking church to visit as the decor is quite stunning. This really is a must see for Torino or indeed, the whole of Italy. It's a unique experience and totally free to visit.

Not to be missed. All I can say is "wow" , stunning. If you are visiting the museum of The Shroud , please take time to visit this it is only a few minutes walk and then pop over the courtyard for a coffee.

I've seen quite a number of churches throughout France and Italy, and I'd prefer to rate each on its own merit rather than in comparison to others. That being said, this one is worth the visit. It is pretty, and as previously mentioned is laid out in a very nontraditional manner. That being said, I loathe when churches have gates in place blocking the altar from view. I know from a strictly utilitarian purpose, they keep the tourists out of ongoing services, and yes, the gates were later opened. But I find it especially irksome to see a magnificent altar, only to be in a part of the church in which large cast iron gates prevent me from enjoying it.
All in all, I'm glad I stopped in. But I must admit, I am astounded that this is #2 on TripAdvisor, absolutely astonished, especially having seen some of the rankings of my more preferred churches. But still, don't let that stop you from dropping by, it is worth the time.

Tucked away on the Via Consolata, the Church of the Consolata In Turin is unusual in its round shape and surrounding round chapels. Beautifully kept and unstuffy. The wall of pictures of people's miracle escapes for which they give thanks is moving and even humorous. Don't miss one of Turin's oldest chocolate houses Il Bicerin opposite. On a cold winter's day we drank Bicerin (mixed coffee and chocolate) by candlelight.

This beautiful church was designed by both the amazing architect Guarini and his successor Juvarri in a combination of high Baroque and Italian Roccoco. It is absolutely splendid - so over the top and yet so perfect. One thing visitors might want to note is that mass is said almost continually so it is a bit hard to photograph the main altar without disrupting a mass. The church also has a medieval style bell tower and next to it is the foundation of one of the corner turrets of the old Roman fort which later became Turin.
Much more beautiful than the portion of the cathedral which is currently open.

For anyone who appreciates seeing the incredible imaginative power of mature Baroque architecture beyond the super-rich opulence of decoration, the interior of this church will be a delight. (Nota Bene, at the time of writing, it is illustrated with a picture of a completely different church at the Tripadvisor.) The surrounding of the church is one of the places in Turin where one feels that history is not in the past, it is very much part of the present.
And the very rich hot chocolate with cream that has been served in the Caffe Al Bicerin opposite the church in the Piazza della Consolata since 1763 is a real treat.

This is the MOST AMAZING church I have ever been in, and that includes St Peter's in Rome and Lincoln Cathedral. It's not that huge but it is unbelievably beautiful, with astonishing decoration that looks like it was only done last Tuesday. Jawdropping. Go go go.

Salve.
