Central Station represents a bridge towards the future. Impressive skyscrapers and new age buildings stretch the skyline with the majestic Unicredit Tower cutting through. Surrounding it are large towers that define Piazza Gae Aulenti, where the fountain and the Monumento Trombe leave one breathless. A famous building of the district is the Vertical Forest, where the innovative materials and trees planted on the terraces are a unique mix of nature and man-made construction. In the district, there is the Monumental Cemetery, known for its antique tombs with sculptures portraying angels of commemorative scenes many will find touching.

    Transport tip
If using public transport around Milan the 3 day unlimited, all area ticket is excellent value at approx €13 and can be used on the metro/bus or tram systems but is for 3 consecutive days and NOT 72 hours from purchase. Tickets have to be validated before use, buy your tickets (metro/bus/tram or train) then pop the ticket into a validation machine on station, they’re normally yellow or sometimes green boxes. Failure to validate tickets could result in a €50 fine.

    Huge busy city station
Centrale Station is huge, and there’s a lot to like about it. There’s plenty of shops here, places to eat and fairly easy to find your way around. Being the biggest station in town also means that it attracts all types of people, and I felt I needed to be vigilant at all times. Could do with a larger police/security presence.

We were at Florence station and when we reach Milan station, we can see a difference. Milan station seems to be harder to access if you happen to approach it from a wrong direction. However, there seems to be a few levels at Milan station which different shops and eateries so can get a bit confusing. Plus side is that Milan Metro is linked to this station.

    Classic grand railway station
Classic terminal train station with the ability to walk around the trains - and not have to lug luggage up stairs between platforms. The busiest northern Italian station with some wonderful architecture. Some confusion with 3 rail companies - Trenitalia, Trenord and Italo - sometimes difficult to plant trips. Also when cancellations occur, the information boards do not always provide clear information in either Italian or English!

    Beautiful & Clean & helpful
I have been to Milan Central Train Station several times in the last few days. I found it to be more organized and cleaner than most stations. There seems to be plenty of staff to help with directions and provide helpful information. There are also two kiosks on the platforms to assist with ticket changes.

    Grand Train Station
One of the larger train stations we have used while traveling in Italy. The architecture is stunning. This station gives you access to the Metro to take you to different parts of the city. The signage is excellent as long as you can read a map or read the signs you will be fine. The station has plenty of places to shop and eat.

A very good hotel in Seminyak.
The hotel was above expectations and was very clean with a very good bed. It also had a great rooftop pool and bar. The staff were excellent from the manager to the cleaners. Nothing was too much trouble for them when a request was made. The Meja Restaurant was also very good with excellent staff. Will definitely miss the lychee martinis.

Clean, orderly, reasonably well maintained, easy to negotiate once you’ve I’ve been there just a few minutes. This was a station with 19th century architecture and appropriately chosen shops. Why can’t stations in the States be more like this?

    Decent
Came here on a train from Rome. Smooth exit from the ticket barriers. There are a number of food options and shops. It is a large station so it was very confusing as to which way to best exit. Good transport links to the rest of Milan but not Linate airport.

    Big and beautiful train station
A huge and beautiful train station with several halls, shops and cafes. From here you can go anywhere in Italy and also to neighboring countries on fast trains. This station is like a museum. You can come here to just walk around the station and enjoy the architecture, sit in a cafe and go shopping.

This is an imposing building. Inside the train platforms are Level 2, US 3. Elevators, moving sidewalks and stairs can get you there.

Ticket machines look easy to use…for English, press the British flag.

Arrived from Trieste on the high speed train in the evening went out in minutes to face a long queue for taxis as it seemed other public transport services were on strike. My wait time was about 50 minutes.
The next day attended a business meeting at the station, had a detailed tour tried a restaurant then dessert shop, wine bar and coffee at "il mercato Central ". I even had an eye sight check, bought new glasses and enjoyed my long hours & this remarkable, historic building

Milano Centrale is a good train station to use when traveling through northern Italy. My wife and I arrived at the Milan Airport to start our wedding anniversary trip this past August. We took the express into Milano Centrale to catch the train to Zurich. We had time for a coffee in one of the shops before catching our train. The boards were easy to read and we easily made it to our platform in time for our departure. The station was designed by Mussolini but does not contain the brutalist that much of his architecture is known for. It is the largest in size of all train stations in Europe and the second busiest next to Paris. We found the station easy and convenient to use.

As the central train hub of Milan, the area around Milano Centrale is probably the best to stay during your Milan trip for ease of travelling to/from other Italian or European cities, within Milan via its efficient Metro network, or to/from the airport via the Malpensa Express. Outwardly, the Art Deco building may not be as impressive as other European cities’ central train station, but its interior does give you the wow factor with its majestically high ceilings and intricately decorated walls and columns. As with any busy hub, one would expect some level of chaotic and frenetic activities in the station, but it is surprisingly easily navigable, and despite comments about pickpockets and muggers, we did not encounter any such incidences and felt safe throughout our time spent in the station. There are many cafe and trattoria within the station and its vicinity, which provides convenience in filling your stomach or simply getting a cuppa before boarding your train. Connectivity, convenience, comfort…. you can choo-choo your way to a memorable Milan experience.

We used this train station a couple times while staying in Malian. The place is pretty nice as far as train stations go. There were plenty of places to eat there also.

Your average huge, impressive and historic European train station. All the pros and cons of any other European train station. It can be confusing, your occasional pick pocket and your rude police officer. The architecture is worth a quick visit. Directly next to and below the station is a museum dedicated to the Jews that departed to the concentration camps from these.

My husband and I recently encountered an unexpected hiccup at Milano Centrale that we believe is essential to share with fellow travelers. While our overall visit to Milan was positive, a confusing experience with ticket validation taught us an important lesson about local procedures.

Upon arrival at Milano Centrale from Duomo, we entered the metro platform using the tickets we had bought and assumed were ready for use. However, we were stopped by a policewoman who claimed our tickets were unacceptable because they hadn't been stamped or "validated" properly.

The confusion escalated when the officers insisted that we had only used one ticket, despite providing evidence of purchasing and using two. We were taken aback, as we were tourists unfamiliar with the intricacies of the local ticketing system. It appears that the gates at the metro station open regardless of validation, potentially misleading travelers about the status of their tickets.

Their so-called validation process seems more like a scam, conveniently placing the burden on unsuspecting tourists. When we tried to reason with these uniformed extortionists, they remained obstinate, showing zero interest in acknowledging our evidence or understanding our perspective.

It's outrageous that as visitors to a foreign city, we were subjected to such heavy-handed tactics without any effort on their part to rectify the situation. The lack of empathy and customer service is nothing short of appalling.

To fellow travelers, we recommend being aware of the local validation procedures and ensuring your tickets are properly stamped before use. While our experience may have been influenced by a malfunction in the validation process, we believe that better communication and understanding from the authorities could have turned this into a positive learning experience rather than a frustrating ordeal.

PICKPOCKETS AND THIEVES EVERYWHERE!! Terrible place

Terrible train station with lack of instructions.

Terrible security, full of pickpockets, thieves, scammers etc. Police did NOTHING to help.
We were a group of 3 Asians (including my elderly father who walks with a stick- I guess that made us a good target???) My mum got her wallet stolen after the 3 of us being pushed into the elevator by a group of 7-8 young females (thank god we weren’t harmed). After the elevator arrived on the 1st floor, they rushed out and I immediately knew something must have been stolen.
When we were checking our belongings outside the elevator, 2 local men approached us and asked what happened. When we told them our wallet was stolen, they told us those females were thieves targeting tourists everyday at the train station. They also suggested us to report to the police on the upper floor.
We waited 45 minutes in the police station inside the train station with NO progress at all. There were 3 groups of foreigners before us and no one was called during those 45 minutes. Ridiculous.
We eventually had to leave without reporting to the police as we had to catch a fight that evening.

As for the station itself, I also found it unbelievable for a main train station to have such lack of instructions and assistance from staff.
A large group of tourists (including ourselves) were SO LOST on platform 1 & 2 as trains arrived on both platform at the same time, and there’s NO instructions showing whether they’re both heading to the airport terminals. The lights on the train also turned off for a whole 5 minutes for no reason during our journey… as if we were in a horror movie.

Terrible, terrible experience as a whole!

I passed through here on my recent trip to Europe and was left feeling very disappointed. The toilet staff stole one Euro from me and refused to give it back which was shockingly unprofessional behaviour (the toilets were also very dirty), then, when I left Milan the next day, the station platform staff were just rude to everyone, including me.

It's actually a stunningly beautiful building so it's a real shame that it seems to have such a bad vibe and gives you a bad first impression of the city and its people.

The station was pretty clean. Stores were nice. Seating was okay. You had to pay to use the bathroom. Train folks were okay. The police were very helpful.
