Nice area in Milan, Italy to eat, shop, and look around. Well lit at night and early in the morning, so it’s a good place to take a walk or jog or enjoy the well maintained scenery.

Named after an Italian architect Gae Aulenti (who is not the designer of this piazza), this pedestrian cum shopping square located in the Porta Nuova business district is the epitome of modernity in a city more well-known for its medieval architecture. The piazza’s contemporary symbol is further enhanced by the surrounding modern buildings, including IBM Studios and UniCredit Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Italy at 231 meters. The presence of the fountains at the centre of the piazza provides the perfect backdrop for citizens and tourists to shop, dine or just relax and experience the “bella vita” life to the fullest.

Not only is this piazza beautifully designed, it offers a welcome oasis from the bustling city. The central feature is the water pool and it is surrounded by a host of shops and restaurants including Sephora and Elan.

The square was built in 2012 and got its name in honor of the architect Gae Aulenti. There is a fountain in the center of the square, and modern buildings and shopping centers are located around.

This is more the modern area of Milan city with skyscrapers, shops and restaurants.

Good area for restaurants with a few good options, also market close by for that type of shopping.

As soon as you reach this square from Gioia station, you feel transported to a different city! Not the same Milan with its narrow streets and colored buildings. This piazza designed by Gae Aulenti, hence it’s name, is surrounded by stunning skyscrapers, libraries with coffee shops, and there is also an underground supermarket.

A must-visit!

Definitely recommend this place to visit for the contract it gives compared to the center. High buildings, a lot of business places, big territory and some shops and restaurants.

Aside from the shops and restaurants here, there is a large shallow water play area, perfect if you want to cool your feet off on a hot day.
There’s also ‘The Egg’, which is a fun way to have a talk with someone.
As you come out of the metro station, head across the road to the escalators which take you up to the main level.

This piazza gives a stark contrast to the historic architecture in the rest of the city. Worth a visit for the interesting buildings, also a great food market here too.
