The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Lately I have passed through this beautiful square very often, which offers a truly magnificent setting thanks to its two sides with prestigious buildings of certain historical-artistic value such as the sixteenth-century Palazzo Marino, the municipal headquarters, and the seventeenth-century church of San Fedele. The perspective is enriched, rather than "broken", by the valuable monument to Alessandro Manzoni, prominently placed in the center of the square (in fact, the great writer was truly at home here).
Instead, the two opposite sides are no longer formed by the old buildings, namely the ancient Palazzo Imbonati and the La Bella Venezia hotel, from which Giuseppe Mazzini addressed the victorious Milanese in the Five Days, as remembered by a plaque on the corner of Via Marine.
Unfortunately, at the moment the facade of the church is not visible as it has undergone conservative restoration. We will therefore have to wait a while before being able to admire the most scenic corner of the square again.

Nice small square, near the Duomo.
Fine architecture and interesting contrast with the surroundings.

Within the Centro Storico, this is a small quiet square including seats and marked by a sculpture of some historic figure. The architecture in the background is fascinating as usual.

The is a nice square. It’s near the big church but not that crowded. There were some open benches to have a seat and take a rest.

Dominated by Chiesa San Fedele, this cozy little place is an escape from the nearby hubbub. In the middle of it, the statue of Alessandro Manzoni stands with a book in his hand, like an inspiration. Don't forget to check out the church, whose interior is worth a visit.

San Fedele is a quiet and elegant square located in the historic center of Milan, a stone's throw from Piazza della Scala and the Gallery. The square is characterized by the rear façade of Palazzo Marino, seat of the municipal administration, by that of the church of the same name dating back to the 16th century, famous for having been regularly frequented by Alessandro Manzoni and by the simple monument dedicated to the same writer. Since there are practically no commercial activities directly overlooking the square, with the exception of the elegant café on the corner, it is generally not crowded and therefore very enjoyable.

We went there yesterday morning to admire one of the installations of the FuoriSalone 2024.
Some of the trees felled by the violence of the wind during the storm of 25 July 2023 (there were over 5000!) found new life in Nicoletta Gatti's creations entitled: "Second Life: 10 trees for 10 author's totems".
A beautiful installation in a beautiful, cozy square, dominated by the façade of the Jesuit church (now packed up for restoration work), with the monument to Alessandro Manzoni in the center (who died following trauma sustained from an accidental fall inside the same church) and with the original façade of Palazzo Marino.
Definitely worth seeing.

We passed by yesterday morning and I noticed that this year too there are no Christmas decorations.
It's a shame, the square is beautiful, intimate, dominated by the façade of the Jesuit church, with the monument to Alessandro Manzoni in the center (who died following trauma from an accidental fall inside the same church), with the façade original of Palazzo Marino and with the memory of two historic buildings (now demolished and replaced), including the Bella Venezia hotel from which Giuseppe Mazzini harangued the victorious Milanese after the Five Days.
