This landmark located in lovely Bellagio can be seen as you arrive by boat.
It is of Romanesque style with a stone facade and has an attached bell tower.
The church was built in the 12th century.
Its well worth visiting this pretty church.

From the bouvelard to this church is a short climb of the stairs through the pitouresk village of Belaggio. The church itself looks good from the outside and is free to visit. The interior is a little bit sober. The altar looks nice, lots of gold. A visited only takes a couple minutes, not too much to see but if you are in Bellagio nice to visit it.

San Giacomo is not the most impressive church we visited on our trip, but its rich history sure is worth the stop. Almost 1,000 years in the making, with a tall bell tower and ornate altar. Right in Piazza della Chiesa, we easily incorporated the visit with our walking tour through old town.

Great little church in such a small town on the other side of the lake, would imagine all those centuries ago building such a church in that location would have been difficult.
After traveling around Europe for 6 months and seeing hundreds of churches would say this would be any where near the top, but nice church to go in a look around.
Does have a nice bell tower that has a nice ring to it.

We spent a few days in bellagio and it’s a beautiful place to walk round with fantastic views. This is just one of the interesting buildings you will pass while walking. It’s really near the start of the walk to a little harbour that’s about half a mile out of town but well worth the walk

Such a lovely little church in beautiful Bellagio town. Quite the opposite of the grand St. Peter's basilica but so worth seeing. So much beauty within, stop in, light a candle and say a prayer.

Bells ring at 8 am every morning followed by Ave Maria, heavingly, definitely worth a visit, so peaceful.

This small church beckoned to me as a respite after battling mobs of people in Bellagio's center and climbing a long flight of steep, old steps to reach this upper section of town. I entered through a side door and found the cool air refreshing after a long time in the summer sun.
The simple Romanesque structure, built between 1075 and 1125, shows off a stone floor and stone pillars. As I looked around, I noted a small wooden 12th-century crucifix and a beautiful 16th-century altarpiece. I found this to be a charming place and much more inviting than the massive cathedrals where I have been.
Many others seemed to be seeking sanctuary on the hot day. All remained quiet and respectful. I sat for a while in one of the pews, contrasting the frenzy outside and the peace within. I consider this church to be a most worthwhile stop, regardless of the time of year.

This small church really sets you into the mood of medieval and renaissance Italy. It is uncrowded and peaceful.

When is it open? I am there now.

Not certain, we were there mid day. As with most Catholic Churches, they post a sign listing the hours they are open along with Mass times.

When I was visiting Italy with my best friend and her mom we stopped in the Basilica di San Giacomo. After saying a few prayers ( about 20 rows back from the altar) I turned and on one knee I I whispered to my best friend "Will you marry me" She did accept! I have a picture outside, but I would love to have a picture from the back facing the altar. This would always be a treasured memory.
Thank-you for any help in this matter.

The only photo I have of the altar is the one which I have already put on TripAdvisor. Not sure if that's any good. I do not have one from the back of the church, sorry.
