About
Every day: from 10.00 to 13.00 - from 14.30 to 18.00. Last ascent 30 minutes before th Torrazzo closes. Christmas, every Monday . The Torrazzo is one of the monument that best symbolizes the city of Cremona: it is indeed one of the highest medieval bell towers in Europe (m 112,54 – feet 368,18). The structure exemplifies the extreme accuracy of the ancient construction techniques and it is considered a perfect union between architectonic styles, which are completely different from each other. Thanks to the recent opening of the Vertical Museum, the issues related to the study of the astronomical are analyzed. Inside the 4 new halls you can find some curious historic objects and many kinds of old clocks. There’s also a fantastic Foucault’s Pendulum installation. Its oscillation demonstrates the Earth rotation from a scientific point of view. On the top of the tower you can admire a wonderful city view.

This is a beautiful cathedral and the attached tower is amazing. You can climb to the top of the tower and learn about the clock and its history.

There are steps and steps and then more steps. It’s wide in the beginning. Then narrow and winding. Then one way metal steps. It’s exhausting. It’s also awesome. The views are amazing. And even the walk up is cool as there are numerous view points. It’s fun and really tiring.

Lots of steps. Lots of steps! But on the upside, the staircase is wider than in many bell towers, & there are various levels to stop off at for a breather on the way up. They operate a traffic light system where the staircase narrows. The views make the effort just about worthwhile, but there are no photo opportunities until you reach the very top as the look out spots are covered in wire mesh. The adjacent Cathedral is free to enter & is stunning, but there’s a charge for the Tower, Museum & Baptistry.

It was lots of fun and interesting. I have walked up a number of towers, but this one was unique because of the museum exhibits interspersed on the walk up. Not only did I learn a lot, but it presented a great opportunity to rest along the way and as this is a very tall tower and I am no spring chicken, it was very welcome to have this opportunity. The view from the top was, as usual with these things, impressive and informing as to the soul of Italy. If you can manage the effort, it’s well worth the time that is always short on trips. I highly recommend it. One final thought. The stop in Cremona was a last minute addition and I did not expect a place that I honestly thought was too small to have a structure of this stature be so engaging. It’s testimony to the endless bounty of wonders Italy offers the traveler, even the veteran traveler, like myself.

We enjoyed walking all the way up. It's worth a stop to see the movie. It is in Italian of course, but there are English subtitles. Worth the 5 minutes to hear the history. They have a system of stop lights (red and green) to show if you can proceed up or not. The system works because the stairway is so thin, only 1 person can fit at one time. Going up they also have stops along the way so you can read about different things and rest if you want!

Sort of barren and quiet. Visit to see center of Cremona and it’s major church. Church was dark but that may be the style. Not too much too see around it though. Smell of cow manure was strong all around Cremona.

Lovely views from the top of the whole region around Cremona - definitely worth the 502 steps if you can do it!

It was a hot and rather hazy day, so the climb was quite an exercise. First part are simple stairs, view a nice explanation of the clock and the machine operating it.
Then the steps become narrower (with a traffic light to control the flow), whilst the last part is a very narrow spiral staircase. If you are afraid of heights, this might not be to your liking...
View over the city is nice, but since it was hazy, only some flatlands visible, not too much interesting.
PS: the Dom Tower in Utrecht, albeit about one century younger, is actually 10 centimeters higher!)
