A real beauty of the square! It is like a Renaissance hall that delights visitors and residents!
In the center we can see the Fountain Contarini, as well as the Palazzo Nuovo, which was the seat of the city council of Bergamo and today is the building that houses the library Angelo Mai.
Also noteworthy is the Civic Tower, which the Bergamasques know by the nickname "Campanone".

The Piazza Vecchio next to the Piazza Duomo is at the heart of Begamo’s Citta Alta. On one side sits the Palazzo della Ragione, a 12th century municipal building turned exhibition centre. On the other stands the Biblioteca Angelo Mai home to ancient manuscipts and prints. In its centre lies the Contarini Fountain dating from 1780.

Typical square heiress of the old Venetian State. Very busy and beautiful. By day it is more palatable to walk than at night, as its lighting is somewhat poor and does not show that contrast of light and street at night. It is the central area of Bergamo in the old part. Eating there is more expensive (obviously) than in other areas. If you walk a little further to the castle there are very good areas to eat and cheaper.

The heart of Bergamo is the Piazza Vecchia. Here you will find the city’s most beautiful and important buildings. The town hall, Palazzo della Ragione and Palazzo Nuovo are all located here. When you stand in the square, you will also see the city tower, the Campanone / Torre Civica. You can even go up the tower for a fantastic view of the city. This building also houses the Museo Storico dell'Èta Veneta. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit this museum, but on our next visit, I would go inside.

An essential place for those visiting Bergamo, a concentration of beauty and history, lively and busy, entirely pedestrian, with many places to sit to admire what is around. Beautiful fountain, exceptional especially the view towards the Colleoni Chapel and the church of S. Maria Maggiore, but every glimpse of the square offers enjoyment to the eyes. Despite being often crowded I also noticed a great cleanliness, rare good to be found these days.

it is the central square in the Città Alta (old town) of Bergamo. The surrounding architecture is beautiful. Especially the Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo della Ragione. Nearby is the big Cathedral, the Duomo. Arround the Square, you find some nice cafes and restaurants.

This place really have a spirit of the Citta Alta. True Italian experience in old city of Bergamo. Anyone visiting Bergamo must taste real gelato and drink (at least one) a glass of wine at one of the ristorante at Piazza Vecchio

Smaller than I expected but still has charm.
You can sense the history here and try to image it centuries ago.
Now the piazza has a few restaurants around the sides and a flock of very aggressive (or brave) pigeons which have clearly not suffered from a lack of food!!
We had a nice drink and just sat and took in the atmosphere and surrounding.
Nice spot to chill

When you get off the funicular and have never visited here before, you are amazed when you walk out of the station. Then you wander through the narrow streets which are filled with bars, boutiques and restaurants, then you fall upon this amazing piazza which is just filled with history.
There are restaurants and bars with outdoor seating which surround a lovely water fountain.
The whole place is lovely!
