The exuberant exterior of this chapel (which adjoins Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore) makes it a symbolic site of Bergamo. The interior is ok, well decorated, but not too remarkable.

To put it briefly: It's small (it won't take up too much of your time), it's free and it's beautiful. It's a shame they don't let us take pictures.

It is very interesting that a military person can manage to make their own capella - a part of the Doumo. Colleoni sits on a golden horse and the decoration in the chapel is extraordinery

It's a lovely chapel attached to Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. It closes early, so go there first.

Italy was once a series of nation states and some would argue it still is. There is still intense civic pride which in certain areas, such as Venice and Siena, still runs to which neighbourhood you were born in. Bergamo, is far too often overlooked,...More

Colleoni, (not Corleoni of Godfather fame), the general who built this mausoleum for himself, was clearly not a modest person! The frontage is impressive. The tomb is built on a grand scale with an excellent statue of the man himself on it and the altar...More
