Over population and over development run a muck. Getting there from Switzerland through lugano was hideous. Didn't even bother stopping.just kept going. Not worth the hassle

Way too crowded. Way overrated. You're better off going somewhere else for your time and money. Beautiful but way too crazy

We stayed in como town which is gorgeous behind the city walls and no cars. You have to be organised and get up for your ferry tickets at 7am/book your slot. You also can’t book a return !

In 1 restaurant which had 2 big teddy bear as I was almost done with my pizza a metallic thing pieced inside my lip & it was a sharp metal thread inside the dough & they were least bothered & NEXT day we went to the next one in the same lane & the young girl charged 18€ for minestrone soup & the menu showed 16€ . Not to admit her mistake rather argued that it’s the cover charged ( which she had already charged in the bill) & then the price has changed 🤓 she thought we were duh! That 2€ is not important but charging extra from tourist is dishonesty

There seems to be alot of romantic hype around Lake Como propagated by the tourism industry. At the end of the day, does it really matter that George Clooney lives there. No such luxury during our visit. We didn't get to see Bellagio or any of the other towns - just 100s of stressed tourists queued up in the stifling heat, or at an understaffed ticket box for hours waiting for the ferry to arrive. To make matters worse, there was no return journey back to Como, even though it was only early afternoon. Clearly, the organization and tourism infrastructure around the lake is appalling. The best advise I can offer is not to waste your time going there.

Very short but impressive visit to Lecco and cable car tour to Piani d'Erna. Photos of mountains and views to Lago d'Como are very good

lake Como, Milan and Verona….Insanely crowded, rude and unfriendly…there are so many other places in Europe to go to where you won’t be treated like a second class citizen. I’ve travelled all over Europe the past 40 years, something has changed in Italy. Once a charming and gracious place it has fallen victim to popularity. So much more crowded than in past years, I was given the feeling in Como especially that they don’t need, want or like tourists. We should just dump our money on the sidewalks and go home. Never again. Next year I’m going back to France and Spain.

Went on a day trip from Milan. Getting to Lake Como from Milan was a breeze but then the trouble started. Long long queues for everything. You would need to factor in several hours to queue for the ferry ticket booth (can’t book hydrofoil tickets online) and Como-Brunate Funicular. We decided to take the bus to Bellagio however after purchasing tickets the bus didn’t show up and forced to wait an hour for the next bus (we abandoned this plan). Decided to do the Funicular instead but had to queue for 2hrs in the blistering heat just to get up. View from the lighthouse is amazing but ended up walking back down as the queue for the funicular was at least an hr. If you are planning a private boat tours etc you need to book well in advance. Lake Como itself is beautiful but I wouldn’t suggest it as a day trip from Milan unless you leave super early because most activities will take many hours of queuing leaving you little time for exploring. Off peak season is maybe better?

I have just returned from my trip to lake como. It was eventful to say the least. We were travelling from Milan - lake como. The central station in Milan is huge and busy but was such a lack of help from anybody we finally found a tourist info centre and was greeted by a very rude Italian telling me I was wasting her time I only asked “do you know which train we get on to como” I soon told her she shouldn’t be working that job if she does not want to help tourists. It was One hour train and then one hour bus to menagio where we were staying. Now this place is authentic Italy and truly stunning but most nights we couldn’t get into a restaurant we got sorry we are full I just had a feeling they did not want us there and there was visible tables not being used. there wasn’t a huge variety to choose from. Then it was Saturday night we chose a bar for some drinks and was told they don’t serve past 10:30pm. It was so annoying considering it’s Saturday night and I was on my holidays. The lack of organisation with regards to ferry’s and bus and trains is astounding they never came on the times the bus timetable stated we was waiting over an hour and half. I really love Italy but I am afraid this has put me off ever visiting again I felt so unwelcome. Somebody mentioned Italians dislike blondes and I wondered maybe this was why I didn’t have a good experience? I love Italy hate italians. Afraid I won’t be returning to spend my money here.
