Currently staying in Santa Margherita. We flew into Pisa as we wanted to see it but Genoa is closer. This beautiful town and port area is highly recommended. The town is flat and suitable for the not so fit. But you can stretch the legs,...More
We stayed 3 days in Santa Margherita to explore the area, and it is terrific. We used public transport (bus and ferry) plus a kayak rental and our feet to explore the area. While it was busy during August, we still were able to easily...More
Since my first trip in 2001 I have repeatedly returned to Santa Margherita.

There is no direct train from SML to Rome so you will need to check the train timetables. Travel time will also depend on whether you are travelling on a fast train or normal intercity train. I suggest you look up Italiarail website for train times, travel time and fares. I booked all my train fares through Italiarail. And I was able to get connecting trains and arrive at my destination on time. But you will need to plan ahead and also allow extra time if you have to catch a flight as sometimes trains are delayed.
