According to historical sources, religious worship towards Our Lady of the Rose has originis in the Middle Ages when some sailors brought an image of the Madonna with a rose in her hand. This ancient painting is preserved on main altar .
Saint Margherita is the patron of the city and give the name to the city so this it is the main church dedicated to her.
The church was built in 1658 as usual on a previous church, the two bell tower was built in different time: the right one in 1786 and the left one in 1920.
Beatiful Baroc interior with many gold bas-reliefs.
Many statues and paintings are improved the artistic interest of this church.

The current Roman Catholic Basilica of Santa Marghereta dates from the second half of the 17th century and was built on the site of an earlier 13th century church.
The architectural style is Baroque, the church was built according to the Latin cross plan with a central dome.
The interior is richly decorated and contains many beautiful frescoes.
Admission is free, a (small) donation will be appreciated.

Like all churches in Italy, the power, and thus wealth, of the church is always on show with the exquisite work carried out on the inside of the buildings. You really cannot walk past this place, you have to go inside, as its almost humble exterior is turned on its head by the lavish interior.

This church is well preserved, and notably very rich. Marble and gold dominate. The details of the church are worth a trip to see.

If you love Cathedrals / Churches , this is a MUST see. We went inside on our way to Portofino, and we were totally blown away by the beauty inside. Hands down one of the most breathtaking Cathedrals we have seen. Peaceful. Quiet, very few tourists. Hidden gem

It may be a small church but it packs a punch with her stucco decorations and numerous pictorial works and sculptural works. The pipe organ is from 1964 but it blends in well. For the church that dates back to 1658 is a marvel! Must visit.

Beautiful building - inside and out. It is very ornate inside and the stained glass, though not extensive, is nonetheless impressive. Gold leaf has been applied extensively and there are impressive (post) Renaissance paintings over individual shrines along each side. Impressive - went back twice - it is awe-inspiring. Not out of the way - in a Piazza 2 minutes walk from sea wall near main shopping streets.

Do not miss the opportunity to go inside. It will take your breath away. It is beautiful, lavish, ornate - only a day after exploring the amazing St Peter’s Basilica in Rome this little church captured my heart x

Wandered into this absolutely beautiful church, and was blown away by the lovely way the church has been designed and put together, from the crystal chandeliers, to the warm light that bathed the entire church. Such an expected blessing to have walked in and found this.
