Down one of the roads out of the main Piazza is this smaller quieter area. Still magnificent architecture and a really nice atmosphere. More peaceful until the constant emergency service sirens which seems a fixture of Genoa

Located just behind the Cathedral of San Lorenzo is this historic old city square of Genoa. It is shaped in an odd T style with the Doges Palace or Palazzo Ducale to the left and the church of the Gesu in front of you with your back to the lane of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. During our heritage walk we were told that recent excavations around 1975 revealed Roman artifacts dating back to first century BC. This makes it an ancient archaeological site (one of the oldest we have seen so far). It is an architects trip back in time with the visible buildings constructed from 15th to the 19th century. The church was sadly closed/not included in our heritage walk. This town square area was badly affected in World War II which led to changes in its layout due to damages to some building by bombings. It was indeed a lovely town square to stand in and soak in the warm sun and the rich history of this old Piazza of Genoa. Worth a visit for the curious traveler as well a person with a taste for architecture to spend 20-30 minutes and click some memory worthy snapshots !

This Piazza is less busy than Piazza Ferrari. The piazza is quite a bit smaller as well. Nice pedestrian mall. A nice place to take a break.

We walked around the larger Piazza De Ferrari and took one of the side streets down to this piazza. Again the buildings were magnificant, especially the old Church. Our time was limited, so we did not try and go in anything, but this was a gem.
