The place is open three days per week and only till 1 pm. We came too late and it was closed the next day, could only look through the window.

Come back to early the 20th century in this amazing old station. It was the second rail station in Trieste, built in 1906 to better connect Trieste with Yugoslavia and from there to Wien. An amazing place smelling of Trieste Middle Europe character.

Completely managed by enthusiast volunteers, the museum displays an incredible collection of old and new train models, diorama and paraphernalia.

We just loved this place. Situated in an old Trieste railway station near the port area, its entrance was a little tricky to find, down a side street next to an English pub of all places. It's only open at selected times, so do check these out. But if you get an opportunity, I would recommend going. Five euros (£3.5)... More

This museum is located right into the old railway station of Triest building and is full of cool stuff like uniforms, medals, maps, telegraphs, scale models of trains with their own path and train motors, parts and commands. Quite an interesting visit if you like trains and are fascinated by them.

Unfortunately it's only open on certain days, but is well worth a visit. The indoor exhibits are very well displayed in a logical, interesting a clean way. There is something interesting to see at every turn and the building itself somehow retains the atmosphere of a station as many of the fixtures and fittings are original. Outside there's a modest... the old railway station of Trieste, which hosts the museum, is a very beautiful building. Inside it, in the museum, you can not only see a lot of train models and dioramas, but it is still possible to see how was a railway station 100 years ago. There are still signboard posters written in german, as at that time Trieste... More

Beautiful old building repurposed as museum, nostalgic atmosphere, lots of cool stuff from telegraph gear to model layouts to old locomotives. The railways played such a role in the city's and the region's history though the Hapsburg era and two world wars, and this goes some way to recapturing it -- though the signage (all in Italian, with only a... When I first walked in and was greeted by rooms of model train displays, I was a bit disappointed. However, the didn't last long when I discovered you could walk out the back door. The museum is in an old train depot, and when you get out on the platform you are greeted by a few tracks full of old... More

Trieste has an interesting and rich rail history with links having been built according to the country that controlled the city: Austria, Yugoslavia or Italy. The geography of mountains in the hinterland has complicated things further. This museum has an impressive array of displays including several working model railways in the old station buildings. The artefacts range from electrical control... More
