Excellent occasion to view the way of living of well-situated Italian citizens in the 19th century

The museum is in the center of Trieste, and easily accessible on foot. In its 6 floors building the museum has two distinctive parts: the upper 3 floors are dedicated to a modern art collection, and the lower 3 floors show the way wealthy Italian citizens lived in the 19th century. I was interested in the latter. I found that... More

This museum has often been described as the star of Trieste's museum scene: in fact, it offers two museums in one: as you enter, the left hand building houses the original residence of Baron Revoltella (a good insight into the lifestyle of a mid 19th century entrepreneur), while the right hand one houses the picture gallery. Look for the artists... More

This unusual establishment , set out over 6 floors has been in situ as a museum for more than a century. The top three floors are a 1960's designed art gallery designed by Carlo Scarpa to house the Revoltella's eclectic collection of mainly local and regional artists built up , unusually by purchase from the artists shows at events such... Worth a visit to see the art, rooms and furniture. A nice collection and variety of Italian art - portraits, landscapes, etc. Well worth the visit while exploring Triests.

This gallery was such a surprise. The paintings are so beautiful and the artists are mainly local. It is advertised as a museum of Modern Art but, on the whole, the art is very accessible. Enjoy.

The original Revoltella palazzo has been extended to make room for an impressive art collection, including some excellent 20th century works. The original library is also well worth a look.

We took the ancient elevator to the 6th floor and were instantly impressed with the city views, the variety and quality of the art-a funky mix of modern with old, paintings, sculptures and furniture. On perhaps the 3rd floor one enters the impressive home from the 1800's, again sprinkled with some modern art pieces. Different, but it largely works.

The entrance fee to the museo is 5 euros and worth the expense. In the old part, there is plenty to see both in terms of the architecture and the art/exhibits. We spent several hours roaming through and were almost the only ones there. The modern section is modest and underwhelming but I'm not much of a modern art fan.... More

This is a great museum. The preserved palazzo is fantastically over the top and fun to look around. Revoltella's art collection is well presented, interspersed with more modern pieces. The top levels of the Museum display early to mid 20th century art. The way that the curators have chosen to exhibit this is refreshingly different and works very well -... More

The choices made to transform the collection of Count Revoltella in a museum of modern art with a touch of contemporary are decidedly bold. Bravo! I recommend starting from the top floor and down from floor to floor, enjoying a pop up of contemporary works.
