Will review the Ravenna Mosaics generally as is difficult to just pick one as a favorite (but this one comes the closest to being my favorite), BUT all the mosaics in Ravenna are amazing, and historically significant. It is definitely worth the time spending a few days in Ravenna seeing the various mosaics and walking the historical district of the... More

We were enchanted by the quality and quantity of the mosaic work in this small building. It seemed so private, even though there were a bevy of tourists there. What a joy to find how well this building has been preserved.

No queues for this incredible site. Do not miss! Because it's so small you almost feel like you can touch. Photos do not do it justice.

We got the tickets for Euro 11.50 that gave us entrance to four wonderful churches and this amazing mausoleum for Galla Placidia. Its mosaics are hauntingly beautiful, with a memorable use of blue and Christian symbols. The building itself has sunk significantly, which is why it appears so squat from the outside - mosaics not affected. There are marble sarcophagi... More

All in one ticket with San Vitale and a must see. The mosaics are so close you can see all the details.

The pictures of the mosaics in this building were what inspired me to make sure that Ravenna was a place to visit on my next trip to Italy. And here we are. Just go, look up, and you'll be glad you did. No, the Empress wasn't buried here, but what a lovely place to spend eternity she had planned...

It is thought that Galla Placidia, a Roman Empress and regent, commissioned this building as a mausoleum for herself and members of her family, and that the three sarcophagi belonged to her, her husband and her son respectively although no definitive proof of that has ever been found. Besides it's not clear whether the building was ever used as a... More

Of all the sights, this is the one that most impressed us. It's small and you may wait in line but the line is well-managed and it's worth it!

Recently visited San Vitale and wanted to pop in to the Mausoleo but the queues were impossible. The place itself is a great beauty: some of the most famous mosaics conserved in full colours, but very very small. I've lived in Ravenna for years and seen it many times so decided not to bother waiting with the friends who were... More

If you are in Ravenna even for a short time you cannot miss it. Very small site, almost one room only but the mosaic are simply at the top you can see all around. If possible, my recommendation is to have a guide to have an experience which will be unforgettable. Located in the same garden there is the San... More
