This is a huge, stunning building which dominates Piazza Roma. Once the residence of the duke, it is now a navy academy.

Very beautiful building. It was the palace of the Duke, now is a navy academy. The square and the fountain next to it is also very beautiful.

Lovely building. We didn’t go inside as it was Sunday and closed but it is a very impressive palace!

We were told you can only enter the palace with a prearranged tour. We walked by the outside instead.

My hotel host said I had to see the marble bust of Duke Alfonso d'Este by Alfonso Lombardi. Such beauty. The galleries are a smorgasbord of paintings, sculpture and musical instruments from the 16th and 17th century. A must if you visit Modena. The map room is also fascinating for those interested in cartography.

This historical huge building dating from Renancentism period is one of the highlights of a visit to Modena, and the square and surrounding buildings are a great companion to this magnificent building

Imposing Palazzo Ducale, former home of the Dukes of Este, dominates beautiful Piazza Roma. Gorgeous Baroque facade and a sheer size of the palace is very impressive. It houses the Military Academy now and is not opened to general public. We have been told at the Tourist Office only with pre-arranged tour.

We did not enter, based on advice from previous reviewers, but found the outside really attractive and typical of the area's palazzo's.
Easy to fit in a visit as is between the station and the centre - kids of all ages will love the water features in the piazza outside, a former car park and now a pedestrian area.

It's just off one of Modena's main shopping streets so it isn't hard to find. Pretty to look at but I gather the interior is not worth the effort
