As other reviewers have said, steer clear of this filthy, unfriendly piazza. We were here around 7pm in summer and it was full of antagonistic drunks. We were accosted within seconds, and in the adjacent street moments later we saw an altercation. I really can't believe the local council do nothing about this threatening behaviour, since it's clearly been ongoing for years.

Liked this square a lot because it has a special atmosphere. The heart of the University area. It's not the grandest square in Bologna, maybe even a bit worn. But nevertheless a place close to the university filled with students along with other people. There is no chic about this place but you really have the opportunuty to have a mundane experience instead. The place has a best before date discretion and there is no lack of beautiful buildings around the Piazza, like Teatro Communale di Bologna, Palazzo Paleotti and the Basilica di San Giacomo Maggiore. Easy to reach since it's close to the "Due Torri".

Students being students. Square is a little run down looking but the area is worth visiting for a sense of university life. Would be best to see in term time.

This square is located in the university area, not far from the Two Towers. The street Via Zamboni is crossing it.

Teatro Comunale di Bologna (the Municipal Theatre) and Basilica di San Giacomo Maggiore are located here.

There are also some bars which seemed to be very popular among the students.

There’s not really much need to visit this area, a few poor museums. The area seems a bit rough and I wouldn’t visit after dark.

Avoid this place and also the surrounding streets (Via Giuseppe). A lot of drug people/ homeless... didn‘t feel comfortable at all.

Nice enough piazza, but nothing special. The Opera House is one side, without which this square would be largely unremarkable. I saw it on a warm early spring Saturday afternoon, so there were plenty of students relaxing there, which created a good atmosphere. Any other time, I suspect you could walk through it and hardly notice you had.

Rather an odd little square which we fell over by accident. There are a couple of restaurants around it, neither inspired us to go in, and the theatre is along one side of the piazza. There are much nicer piazzas in Bologna!

This is a typical Piazza close to University campus full of young people not as touristy but lively, clean and imbued with architecture and character.

Piazza Verdi looks tame enough by day, when young people hang out in the cafes or just sit on the pavement. At night it's more threatening, with boisterous groups in the square and their shady suppliers lurking on doorsteps in the arcades. In the morning it may be the dirtiest place in the city, but the heaps of trash, broken glass, and bottles are cleaned up fairly early and the cycle begins again.
