Since 1999 offering Market-to-Table day class, half day classes, 3 night courses. As my classes are for very small numbers they fill up quickly and the first months to fill are April/May and September/October so plan ahead! I offer home cooking in a well air-conditioned home kitchen making updated, well plated, traditional Italian meals and my apartment is right in the heart of the historic city. Beginners, experienced cooks, professional chefs, families with children all welcome! I do my utmost to give you a memorable day and a great culinary experience and teach all the classes personally. And if you or your travelling partner/s don't fancy cooking, I offer a morning market food tour ending in a light lunch to introduce you to Bologna, its history and its food. And an unusual evening tour too, just email to ask!

We learned how to make two pastas (tortelli and tagliatelle) and two sauces from scratch, both of which we enjoyed with wine after making them. We made Tagliatelle con Broccoli, Pistacchi e Pomodori Secchi (Bologna's classic egg pasta noodles dressed with broccoli, pistachios, and sun-dried tomatoes) and Tortelli di Patate e Capperi con Pesto Leggero e Pomodorini (potato and caper... We thoroughly enjoyed our cooking experience and tour of the market district. I have been fortunate to have taken many cooking classes in Italy and this is the most hands on. You do the coming while Carmelita guides you through her imaginative and delicious recipes. If you are staying in Bologna for a number of days do the cooking class... More

Carmelita is a fountain of knowledge. Her familiarity with the street markets of Bologna, the butchers, the delicatessens, the bakery - all imparted with enthusiasm and insight was really interesting. Now we know where to buy the best vegetables and fruit, what to look for and what to avoid, the best butcher who buys his meat from local free range... More

We booked a cooking class for two and showed up at 10am as agreed but Carmelita was extremely arrogant and said we had not booked despite we having a email with the confirmation. No excuse for her double booking just very arrogant not letting us in or anything pretending we were idiots.

You did not have a booking with me and I most certainly did not send you a confirmation email as you claim. You sent me exactly two emails, the first asking "Any available spots on Monday morning for two?" To which I replied that I didn't have any; the second asking "How about Tuesday?" to which I replied that yes... More

We knew that Bologna offered lots of quality food and wine options, but we took the opportunity to spend the morning with Carmelita from Cook Italy, as we had read so many great reviews. We weren't disappointed. Right from the start when we had a coffee and pastry at a local cafe in the market, Carmelita introduced us to the... More

I read all of the glowing reviews of going to the market and taking Carmelita's cooking class, but it's not possible to truly capture what a great day we spent with her! My sister and I learned so much about the food tradition in Bologna and the reality as it exists today. It was a privilege to go with Carmelita... More

We had a wonderful experience with Carmelita! The day started with an excellent cappuccino in the heart of Bologna's historic center. Then we did a tour of the market, which was so interesting! In fact, I would strongly suggest that you take this class at the beginning of your trip in Bologna as the history of the city is fascinated,... More

We signed up for the full day and I would highly recommend it. It started off with an educational morning going through the market, learning about the food culture in Bologna and visiting all the wonderful stores and giving us recommendations on where to visit during our trip. And then we went to the cooking class in the afternoon where... More

We had a wonderful time with Carmelita! Venturing the markets with her was a fun an educational experience, and I had a great time learning about Bologna's culinary history. I'll be practicing my fresh egg tagliatelle very soon and even have a Ragu and Panna Cotta to try out! Thank you Carmelita, you definitely made a memory of Bologna.

We signed up for a full day with Cook Italy, and did a market tour in the morning and cooking class in the afternoon. The market tour was an exceptional experience - despite knowing a fair amount about Italian products from living in Rome, the experience was fantastic. In depth knowledge of Carmelita's on history of Italian products and showing... More
