This main road leads from almost in front of the beautiful church of San Francesco down towards the famous Two Towers. There’s a mix of up market and more basic shops and there’s the entrance to the magical Mercato Della Erbe fruit and vegetable market. Well worth walking along this route.

This bronze statue is currently located at the intersection of Via Ugo Bassi and Via Nazario Sauro.
It was created by the sculptor Carlo Parmeggiani in 1888.
Originally the statue was placed in the middle of Via dell'Indipendenza, in front of Teatro Arena del Sole.
In 1900, it gave way to the monument of Garibaldi and was moved to Via Ugo Bassi.

The statue of Ugo Bassi is in Bologna with the street name also in his honor.
Bassi was a Roman Catholic priest and Italian nationalist. Bassi was born at Cento, Emilia-Romagna, and received his early education at University of Bologna.
