If you’re doing a tour of churches in Ancona, this one is a must. Not as beautiful as the cathedral, but obviously and important church in town.

The ornate front of this church does tempt you in, but the interior is a little plain, which contrasts with the vastness of it. Nice architecture and lovely views.

I think this was one of my favourite churches and Piazzas in Ancona. When we visited it was quiet, early morning and mid afternoon seem best. Lots to view.

If you're visiting the Marche to see art, this is a good church to start in; it contains an early work by Lorezo Lotto. The two greatest painters in the Marche are Lorenzo Lotto and Carlo Crivelli. Both came from Venice, and both are a little eccentric, which probably brought them here for commissions. Crivelli seemed totally unaffected by the Renaissance. Lotto, to my mind, was only surpassed by Titian as a painter....don't miss them in Recanati & Loreto and elsewhere.
Crivelli had a less talented brother, Vittore, still worth seeing.

i liked the position. from there you can see the see and the port. the style is gothic and very well kept. there is a big double stair climbing to the church. downstairs there is an old spring coming to town since centuries. magic place

This church is well worth a look if you can get inside. Please don't chatter constantly and destroy the atmosphere like two women did when I was there.
