My visit to St. Peter's Basilica will forevery be etched on my mind - having only seen it on tv or books I was in awe of the vastness of the whole area - on entering the Vatican we climbed the steps of the Dome to breathtaking views of the surrounding areas such as St. Peter's Square and the Vatican... We traveled on a Wednesday to hear and see Pope Francis. It was a good thing we booked a tour through Dark Rome/City Wonders because they 'set the table' for the morning quite well for us. The real bonus came when they provided early seating access before the public crowds arrived. We entered security ahead of most people and found... More

When we visited here, we didn't anticipate the queues!! We were on a bit of a tight schedule so unfortunately didn't have time to go into the museum!!😞😞 Make sure you plan well ahead and give yourself plenty of time there!! 📸Fantastic for photo opportunities, but due to its popularity it's hard to get clear shots without being photobombed by... A city filled with opulence. The architecture is superb and reflects the evolution of the Church/society in Roma. Sadly it is walking past the people experiencing homelessness to get to the city that raises significant social and moral issues, particularly when the Church positions itself as a crusader against poverty. Be aware that the military, including tanks and machine guns,... More

We've been to the Vatican City 3 times over the last 20 years and it still blows us away. The first time we were lucky enough to arrive at St Peter's Square just in time to hear Pope John Paul II address the crowd from a tiny window (there are lots of speakers!) high up in the Vatican. There were... More

Pre-book a tour to save huge queues. I am not religious, but found the opulence of the Vatican City to be quite awesome. Sistine Chapel is a bit rushed and although it is amazing, is very overcrowded and lost its appeal quickly, but St Peter's Basiica is something else.....wow, can't believe that the pictures on the walls are mosaics....breathtaking!!!

So you queue to have your bags searched then walk in. You get asked to leave large bags outside and there is a secure cloakroom that's free. Inside take off your hat and you cannot go in if you wear shorts or skimpy clothing. You can take photos and there are places to pray. There is a museum which is... More

My friends keep telling me that getting into the Vatican would take hours and you'd need your passport - basically a hassle! However, to my surprise, we were there for around 10:30 and didn't have to wait long - just about 20 minutes and we were in. It's extremely touristy for obvious reasons but the church was gorgeous and the... More
