My wife and I signed up for both the Jewish ghetto tour as well as the Ancient Rome tour with this company. The Ancient Rome tour wound up being a private tour and for the Jewish ghetto tour it was a smallish group of about 10, and my wife and I were the youngest (30y/o) by 10-20yrs. The ghetto tour... Our tour of the Jewish Ghetto of Rome and the Great Synagogue was extraordinary. Micol took us through the Jewish Museum pointing out the many historical items and telling us stories about them. Entering the synagogue she explained how it came about and the architecture of the time that it was built. The highlight was walking through the ghetto with... More

We did the Walking Tour of the Ghetto with Yael. She was great! The tour went over a lot of information about the Roman Jewish community. We visited the Jewish Museum in the Great Synagogue as well as walking around the area. This tour was a great way to get to know the very interesting history of the Roman Jews.... More

We booked this tour quite a while ahead of our visit to Rome as we'd read such great reviews. Micaela loved up to her reputation. She is a wonderful guide - knowledgeable, entertaining and a great presenter. She gave us a fascinating and informative overview of the history of the Jews in Rome. We explored the ghetto, sampled some specialties... More

Jewish Roma guide Marco did an incredible job of showing us the Jewish symbolism and hidden meanings behind the great artworks housed in the Vatican. For over 3 hours, he revealed in paintings and carvings just how Judaism played a huge role in the beginnings of Christianity and we learned so much from him. We even saw the room that... More

We recently took a fascinating "Jewish" tour of the Vatican, led by Daniella . We were a group of 8: 2 families of 4 each. We contacted Micaela and her team several months before our trip, and followed their directions. All the administrative details worked very smoothly without any significant glitches. Daniella is very warm, personable and friendly. She is... More

This was an excellent tour for anyone wanting to know more about Jewish Rome. Sara Pavoncello was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable. The fact that she came from Jewish Quarter made it even better. She knew many of the people that were out and about and she had many interesting stories. The tour of the Great Synagogue... More

In early April 2017, my wife and I were VERY pleased we'd decided to spend the time & money to tour some of ancient Rome with 'Jewish Roma'. Not only was the guide knowledgeable, she was friendly, funny, and expedited our tour of the Colosseum and other nearby Roman ruins immensely...i.e., we noticed that, if you try this on your... I have to say that this tour was the highlight of my friends and I's trip. The tour guide was so informative, patient with our questions and extremely engaging. We were excited when we realized the tour was longer and less expensive than we had originally thought. We had such a great time and I have recommended the tour to... More

Staying in Ghetto

Neighbourhood Profile
The mini-neigbourhood Ghetto holds tight to its reputation as a stand-alone area thanks to its nearly 300-year history as the home to Rome’s Jewish community. Times changed in the 20th century, but the tiny area still retains its mix of tradition, community, and history. Ancient and medieval architectural design frames apartments, bakeries, shops, and restaurants. Friends and families are the pulse of the neighbourhood, keeping company on the Via del Portico d’Ottavia. The Ghetto observes the traditional Jewish Shabbat: businesses close from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
