Neighbourhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighbourhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

I listened to The Most Beautiful Opera Arias at the Chiesa Evangelica Valdese and loved the experience. It was an evening concert and the acoustics in the church were absolutely wonderful. The church is very small and was lit by candlelight, so it felt like a very special and moving experience. A small plate of the typical Roman dish ‘Pasta all’Arrabbiata’, was included in the ticket price and I bought a glass of Italian red wine for a very reasonable price.

I attended the opera/ballet performance in August 2014 and it was the worst experience of my holiday. The problem is that if your not in the front row you miss most of the ballet and they permit everyone to take photos and videos throughout the performance so all you see are peoples arms raised in the air taking photos and videoing. Until they ban photography during the performance avoid like the plague!

Booked on line for a concert of vivaldis the four seasons here, cosy plain church close to the forum, the musicians were superb and can recommend this for a pleasant way to spend the evening

First, lets start with the Music...AMAZING! Phenomenal! Breath taking performance! All orchestra members were dressed very elegantly and were absolute professional musicians. Don't come for any other reason but to be transported through time to a different era of music and elegance!
Now, lets address the pamphlet...
The pamphlet from our hotel shows a beautiful and elegant team of musicians! We were expecting a beautiful theater or opera house. We dressed very nicely and got a taxi to stay fresh. We paid extra to sit on the front row. On the pamphlet, they say there is free dinner before the show, a buffet, but then contradict themselves by saying its a "small plate", they are not lying on that one. They mention a chef and staff; not quite, how about a girl in an apron! It also says if you pay extra you skip the line, but the guy at the "table" at the top of the steps at the "very small church" told us to wait 6 more minutes before we could enter. As other people began to arrive, my daughter and I sat on marble steps, that lead into the church, in our dinner attire (nice dresses), while he let others in before us! The gentleman who lead us to our seats, however, was very accommodating and kind. But, not only did they not let us skip the line for entering the church after paying extra, but they didn't let us skip the line for food either! He lead us to our seat, we waited, when we looked behind us, people were already getting food. A lady just entering the church, tried to cut my daughter and I off as we waited for our turn for pasta! Also, for 0.21 milliliters, in a little plastic cup, at €5 each, wine or soda, you can wet your whistle?!?! They handed us plastic plates and plastic ware and made us stand in a huddled corner with no lighting to eat the few scoops of pasta they gave us! So in conclusion, eat before you come, don't pay for front row seats, take the bus, & wear jeans and tennis shoes! Lol!

An unexpected gem... Walked through the stunning city of Rome to find this small but beautiful church where we watched excerpts from popular operas performed by three fantastically expressive singers accompanied by light ballet. Wonderful sound resonated through the marble lined church. What a great treat.

I purchased tickets for a performance on Valentine's Day. I bought them a few weeks before we left home. I did not know what to expect, but I wanted do something special while we were in Rome. The production is in a small church not far from Piazza Venezia. The entire performance lasted about 1 1/2 hours and included Opera and Ballet. The singers, dancers and musicians were terrific, really terrific. I have not seen many ballet performances or operas, but I have seen a few. I am more of a football kind of guy. This was kind of like a crash course on Opera and Ballet. My wife and I really enjoyed this and it was a special treat on Valentine's Day.
You can book tickets directly with operainroma.com. I looked at a Ticketmaster type company and they wanted about 14E more than going direct. If you can afford it, pay the extra price to sit in one of the first 4 rows. You will be close enough to see the performers. I think it would be difficult to see sitting farther back, but it is only 20E. Tickets for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rows are 40E. The front row was 50E.

I had booked tickets in advance for an opera show at this venue. I have to say the little church itself is small. We expected a much larger place and more facilities, especially for the price!
Although the performance was probably good, I think we discovered that night that opera really isn't for us, so much so that we left during the break! I have to say the orchestra was very good and I was taken more by their performance!
Please note that this venue does not have anywhere to purchase drinks so please take your own refreshments, especially in Summer when it's warm.
As for location, it's very central, not far from main attractions and fairly easy to find.
Another thing to take note of - don't bother buying the tickets 'VIP' tickets, don't waste your money like we did.

We booked our tickets in advance, from the US, for we always try to visit concerts of classical music everywhere we go and classictic.com always offers several choices, mostly held in similar venues of smaller churches. We have done so in Paris on several occasions, in Venice and now in Rome.
The concert is advertized as 'The Most Beautiful Opera Arias and the Magic of Ballet', with one intermission. The length is about 1.5 hour.
The opera part, performed by two male singers (baritone and tenor) and one female singer (soprano) was significantly better than the ballet part, marked by a certain degree of amateurism.
The lack of a raised stage is to be expected in such venues; these are not specifically designed concert halls. Having said that, we did not encounter any obstacles as people standing and taking pictures during the concert. And sure, try to reserve the VIP seats in the first two rows; they are not much more expensive.
Our only suggestion would be to include a program with the names of performers, and though those are probably rotated every now and then, a simple A4 sheet of paper printed from a 'home' computer would suffice. And yes, the program shall be fully translated into English. We could figure out that 'Il Lago dei Cigni' stands for 'Swan Lake' but still.
Very convenient location off Piazza Venezia.
Recommended.
