About
The MAXXI is much more than a museum: it is a platform open to all languages of creativity and a place for meetings, exchanges and collaborations. It is a free, elastic, open and dynamic space. It produces and hosts exhibitions of art, architecture, design and photography, but also performances, conferences and meetings with artists, architects and protagonists of our time.

Location of this museum is quite hard to reach with public transport since the metro is far away and we haven't been able to comprehend how to get there by bus. So, it was quite a long walk. We could see that most of the visitors were coming by cars or taxis.

Before the entrance to the museum there is a security checkpoint. We had our Covid passes, but the staff does not speak much English so it was a bit of a strugle to understand what they want from us.

The staff in the museum was professional and we had no problem communicating in English. We had to leave my small backpack in their attended storage.

The ticket price was 7 or 8 euros due to a promotion in August 2021., but still there were no crowds.

We went there mainly because of Zaha Hadid's arhitecture and it is great, but this new part of the museum is actually much smaller than we expected. We are not into modern art, so we spent maybe an hour there and had some fun taking pictures (great place for some unusual selfies if you are into it - check the elevator)

The building (by Zaha Hadid) only is worth a visit - the exterior as well as the interior. And once you’re there, why not take a look at the exhibitions. It’s contemporary art, so don’t expect it to be easy watching but if what I saw is the usual mix, then there’s something for everyone.

The Zaha Hadid building is beautiful and elegant. I think her style fits perfectly for an exhibition of modern art.
The content of the museum, however, is not entirely great (at least in my experience) because while some exhibitions were great, aesthetic and did make me feel something, others were just very simple and confusing for me to enjoy. I think that good modern art must be understandable (or at least open to interpretations), it has to make you feel and wonder, but here (in some cases) it was just there.
Still, the museum is good: very complete with restrooms, a wardrobe, a nice cafeteria (with good prices and a neat design, by the way) and an interesting book shop, so I think not everything’s lost.

The area was fairly difficult to get to, in theory you can get a tram from Flaminio, but they were not working so we had to get a replacement bus. The cost to enter was 15 Euros, which was really not worth it, although the building by Zaha Hadid is interesting, but not one of her best. It is not great as a gallery space.

Be warned that some of the stairs are transparent, and there is a glass floor in one room. There was no warning about this, so if you have no head for heights, you will have a bad experience.

Also, we were shouted at to remove our shoes and leave all bags in a locker for 2 of the galleries, which did not improve the visit.

The cafe was not great either, very little selection of food. Overall, glad to have ticked it off, but felt it was poor value.

The building itself is beautiful artwork, one of the best works by late Zaha Hadid and her firm. Like it or not, the building is one of the masterpieces on the edge of today's architecture, so whatever exhibitions/evebts it has, it is worth visiting for all those who work as architects or have an interest in contemporary architecture.

Galleria 5 (the projecting part with a giant glass opening) was inaccessible when I visited due to preparatory works for the upcoming exhibition. Some of the galleries may be closed at certain times, so it is highly recommended for visitors to check about such a temporary closing of galleries.

The building was very intriguing, like most people say, and the exhibitions I saw (Aldo Rossi, Giacomo Bala, Thomas Hirschhorn) were topics that truly interested me.

However the circulation was pretty confusing cause galleries 1,2,3 weren't accessible from the front entrance area. Blaming the architect for this complicated design would be pointless at this point, so I would suggest the curators not to close the front door to gallery 3.

When I go to Rome the MAXXI is a place that we always visit and that we love so much... every time we go it always amazes us and is always exciting... I highly recommend it for all ages for now it's very nice also for kids with the exhibitions that there are ... I also recommend the Palombini bar and the restaurant which is located in front of the entrance ... both very good ... a particular task x Andrea, a young boy who loves his job very much, very kind and helpful ...Go because it's very filling

Rules Rules and more Rules. Unfriendly.
You cannot take anything into museum no bags/purses/ even if you have money/passports. You must lock away but need a Euro coin for the lock!. No one shows you why it won’t lock without finding the hidden place for a Euro.
Then no shoes allowed in an exhibit
Or no bare feet. So you have to PAY for a pair of socks. Maxxii Building is hard to find if walking. No signs.
Only beauty is Hadid building from entrance.

Utterly disappointed…the visit was finished in 10 minutes ! Apparently some spaces are currently closed which isn’t mentioned at a quick glance on the website. The staff at the entrance are supposed to inform the visitors which they did not in my case… so paying the full price for so little feels like a rip-off. The Zaha Hadid architecture could have saved the day but didn’t…if you want an impressive contemporary design for the art… see the Depot of the Boijmans van Beunigen museum in Rotterdam, and here in Rome, just forget about he Maxxi…Rome has so much more to offer

Located in Rome, the Maxxi Museum is one of the most influential architectural 'eye candy' projects worldwide. Aside from the installations spanning modern fashion, cinema and art, the building is worth visiting just to explore it's maze of geometrical components that lead to 5 floors of 'drop dead' incredible artwork. I was continuously mesmerized by the the Maxxi.
