The area
Neighbourhood: Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.

This is a public square along Via XX Settembre around 150 metres northwest of Piazza della Repubblica. There are several points of interest here highlighted by the Baroque gem Santa Maria della Vittoria, a popular church for tourists to visit to see the Bernini masterpiece 'Ecstasy of St. Teresa'. This is also where you see the impressive Fontana dell'Asqua Felice (also known as the Moses Fountain). This is also the location of Church of Santa Susanna and San Bernardo alle Terme, the latter which can be entered and visited if interested.

This piazza is a busy one, with lots of traffic. Nearby are several important churches (Santa Maria della Vittoria, which contains Bernini's masterpiece the Ecstasy of St. Teresa; Santa Susanna; and San Bernardo alle Terme). On the piazza is the Moses Fountain (Fontana dell'Acqua Felice).

Piazza San Bernardo is small, but it is home to magnificent Chiesa Santa Maria della Vittoria with Bernini's masterpiece, Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, and two other interesting curches, Abbazia di San Bernardo Alle Terme di Diocleziano and Chiesa di Santa Susana. The Moses Fountain is also quite notable.

On our walk back to our hotel after dinner, we passed by this huge fountain beautifully lit up at night. Of course I had to find out more about it and its significance.
The 7 rows of Latin at the top states that Pope Sixtus was the builder of the fountain as he took on the task of getting clean drinking water into the area as the only other potable water was at the Trevi Fountain. It was designed in 1587 to be part of the Acqua Felice Aquaduct and even though it is referred to as the Moses Fountain, or Fontana del Mose in Italian, the Moses statue was not added until later. On either side of Moses are statues of Arrone and Gideon.
This area of Rome began to grow as the water became available and the fountain represents the Catholic Church looking after the citizens of Rome.
It is a beautiful fountain both during the day, but especially nice lit up at night. It is on a main thoroughfare, so you will probably see it even if you're not looking for it.

There's absolutely nothing impressive about the square itself, but you can at least admire the semi-famous Moses' Fountain, which is across the street from the square and the lesser-known Church of Saint Susanna at the baths of Diocletian and the Santa Maria della Vittoria church.

Piazza San Bernardo fails to make tourist guide book lists of things to do and see in Rome and this is a bit of a shame as there are two impressive attractions here.
First, you can see the Moses Fountain, right on the small square. This is a facade fountain statue of Moses that is less impressive than the marvelous Moses featured Trevi Fountains but it is still a very nice structure, well worth having a look.
Second, you can visit Santa Maria della Vittoria, which is quietly one of Rome's best church attractions in our view. This is a baroque era masterpiece of a building that should be on every church fan's visitor list when visiting the city.
Overall, the piazza is a tiny compared to others in Rome and there is no real activity here other than to see the fountain and church and move on. However, these two attractions, especially Santa Maria della Vittorio, are good enough to seek out this location while in Rome.

That is dominated by the roads the converge on to it. However, its surrounds are of note, with the Fountain of Moses, and the church Santa Maria della Vittoria, for lovers of the Dan Brown novels you can see Bernini's "Ecstasy of Teresa" depicted in Angels and Demons, making the area/square quite popular with tourists.
