My wife and I took a freenow from historical district to and from the Abbey in my pursuit of sampling all ales certified by the ITA. It was humbling and beautiful to visit the grounds and pray at all three churches prior to visiting the monastic shop. Its a really nice easy trip, peaceful, spiritual. I cant wait to open the ale and reflect upon the whole experience.

The “Abbey of the Three Fountains” is a large religious compound containing three churches, a monastery, and a gift shop with Trappist foodstuffs (beer, chocolate, honey, etc.). The name derives from the legend that Saint Paul was beheaded here, and his head bounced three times, each time leaving a small miraculous spring. Incredibly peaceful and quiet here, just the sounds of birds and the occasional ringing of a church bell.

Peaceful place worth visiting. Featuring legends, saints, beer, etc. Aside historical and religious reasons (site of Paul's martyrdom legend), they brew and sell excellent trappist beer.

As beer lovers we visited Tre Fontane for multiple reasons. As one of the genuine Trappist breweries this place is worth a visit, although it is important to emphasize that the brewerie itself can't be visited. Nevertheless, Tre Fontane is a very special place in itself because of the religious history. This monastery is believed to be the place where St. Paul was beheaded by order of the Emperor Nero. Also from an architecture perspective, the place is interesting. Belonging to the monastery are three separate churches. For information concerning the abbey and gifts theré a gift shop on the site. The people in the shop are very friendly and really willing to help you and inform you about the monastery.

Beautiful church and great history of St Paul. We were able to see everything in about 45 minutes. It’s got a cafe and two gift shops.

This is one of Rome's hidden gems. Walk from Laurentina ( 15 mins) and enter a stillness which is hard to find in Rome. This is an active Monastery and you can join the worship, visit the place where StPaul was martyred - or just enjoy the beauty and the peace. Check opening hours. Closed lunchtime.

Just across the road is the Sanctuary of Tre Fontaine, where Mary appeared in the 1940's. Again a lovely calm place. I think it opens at 8.00 am. Check. Nice coffee stand just by the gate!

Take Metro B to Laurentina, and walk 20 min (or take the bus) to the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane. The place is very peaceful, and there are three churches/chapels to commemorate the imprisonment and execution of St Paul, which - according to the legend - took place right here. Great place for church history nerds, e.g. the prison cell of Paul himself. On your way back, cross the road and walk up to the sanctuary of the Vergine della Rivelazione, where Virgin Mary still performs miracles, according to devote believers. Walk into the cave and see thousands of objects and greetings left by grateful devotees.

Rich in history and very well worthwhile if you are in Rome. The only minor distraction are the professional beggars that stand outside asking for money. I hAve visited on over 10 occasions and they are always there chasing and preying upon tourists.

Stooped here on our way into Rome before dropping off our car. This is a very serene and holy place. If you are a Christian, this should be on your list of stops while in Rome!
